I have a friend that is a bookworm " bigtime" and love romance novels.............is the K-dx right for her..........she reads extremely fast............so the small screen seems to me to be a bother over time for her...........but the dx is very large.............am going to buy a stand with the dx but just want to know if someone who just reads romance.... is this the best choice....................also does the kindle store have alot of free romance books......she does not make alot of money and one of the reasons to do this is to save her money and for her to be able to loads as many books as her little heart desires and just have a wonderful time......................

It's nice of you to want to purchase a Kindle for your friend.  As to whether you buy a smaller screen or the DX, I don't think it matters which genre she enjoys .  The DX does have more "acreage" so you can read more words before before a page turn.

Personally, I don't think the screen will make much of a difference for her. I'd get her the new K3 wifi version for $139 and then you can give her a $200 Amazon gift card that she can use to buy tons of books and you'll still come out $40 ahead! =)

What a nice thing to do for a friend. As long as she will be reading at home most of the time the DX would be great. If she wants to take it with her when she is out then the K2 or K3 might be better. I read really quickly and like being able to to put my K2 in my purse.

I'm not a romance reader but I do have a DX and have also had a K1 (K3 on order)  As someone else said, if she's the sort who always carries a book with her, the smaller one might be better as it is more portable.  You'll definitely want to get a cover or case if she plans on doing this.

There are a fair number; also a lot that are very reasonably priced.  Check out the Free and Bargain book threads at the top of the book Bazaar.  Also check out the list of Genre authors. . . .many of our KB members are independent authors and a lot of them write romances. . . .  You can also look in the Kindle store and filter by genre and then show the titles organized by price with lowest first.

One other thing: if you are going to get it as a gift and she will register it to her own Amazon account, be sure to mark it as a gift so that it doesn't arrive already registered to yours.  That just saves one step.  If you already have a Kindle and you want to get her one so you can share the books you've already bought, by all means have it registered to yours.  She doesn't need to have any sort of access to your account to read the books you've already bought. . .she'll be able to d/l them from the Archive showing on the Kindle.

I agree with the posters who suggest getting the K3 and putting the rest toward an Amazon gift card that she can spend on books.  I am a fast reader--usually read a book every day or couple of days--and the small screen on the K2 hasn't slowed me down a bit.  When I first looked at Kindles, I thought the page refresh would bug me, but I don't even notice it now, and read even faster than when reading traditional books.  But ultimately, ask yourself whether she'd appreciate the larger screen on the DXG or the portability of the K3.  Good luck with your purchase--what a nice thing to do.

Thank all of you for your advice.....................I believe this is an at home reading for her..........she told me that she goes home an reads.............but it is nice to know that the smaller one is a option for a fast reader..............the truth is the reason I want to buy the KDX is because she will have a month to figure it out and I want her to have the one she feels is right for her...............if she thinks the smaller one will be better she can always send it back and buy the one of her choice................I thought of buying the nook but all the data I see on the web points to the kindle.........just a better product.........in anycase thanks again for all your advice............it helped alot.

Thanks cobbie, you know I just hear this woman talk about how much she loves to read and I think she would allready have a kindle or something if she could just afford it...................too me everytime I see this KDX all I see is her name on it............this is something I believe would really enhance her life and the fact is she could load as many books as she wanted and read read read.............lol and it is not often that you can buy a gift for someone and really feel good about it being something that will really make a difference........and that the person will just love and use for a long long time........................it cost alot........but to tell you the truth I don't mind the cost if I know it is going to make that person so happy................ and this KDX I think from what she has told me in our conversations would just be the perfect gift .......at least for her.......... you know more then being her friend ...........I just like to make someone's day a little brighter.......don't usually go to this extreme.............but since this is a one time thing I think I am going to go for it and if she wants the smaller one ......she will have the option..............thanks again

I'd probably recommend the K3.  I'm an incredibly fast reader as well, and the smaller page has never bothered me.  I like the smaller size to carry with me, plus it's lighter and easier to hold for extended periods of time.

Honestly though, it's hard to go wrong either way.

The 2nd best gift you can give her is to tell her about us here at KB. There are several ways to get free or cheap books for her Kindle.
