I may be the only person in the world (maybe even in the universe) to like the original Kindle cover. I keep the elastic band over the right bottom edge of the K to keep it from slipping out. It is lighter than the other covers (important to me), and I find it very easy to use either straight or folded back. I am disappointed that K2 seems not to have such a cover.

You are not the only one! I love the original cover too and would be perfectly happy with it except the darn K back cover keeps coming off and then the K dumps out of the cover. Twice it's hit me in the face, once it hit my 6 yr old and many times there were almost serious landings on tile floors, wood tables, countertops, pavement... If the back cover would stay on it would be a perfect cover. Except that it needs some color but that's not a necessity IMO - that's complete frivolity!
Me, too! I am very happy with the Kindle cover, except that recently the back cover seems to come off easily, making the Kindle slip. |

I don't have the original Kindle, so I'm curious about these new ? K2 ? covers....why is there no button or wrap to close the covers? I'm sure they'd secure it so it wouldn't fall out, but it could flip open and get damaged in a briefase, etc. Perhaps the K1 cover didn't have a closure either?

I went over to Amazon to the Kindle store and typed in "cover" in the Kindle Books search book. Before I could finish typing it, the computer offered me "covers for the Kindle," "covers for the Kindle book reader," and a few other variations. Could this be a huge clue or is this just the computer talking?

The Amazon cover for the Kindle1 has an elastic band on the back that you can pull around to keep it closed. Other covers had some type of strap. Looking at the Amazon cover for K2 doesn't show whether there's a strap on back or not (but it does appear to be of nicer, real leather instead of "pleather" - since some people object to leather products it might be a good thing for them that the cover is sold separately). Looking at the pictures in the Kindle store, the Cole Haan covers have straps for all four corners to hold the K2 inside the cover. The M-edge covers use the same type clips that the new Amazon covers use. It'll be interesting to see what other manufacturers come up with - already new vendors are in the mix....nice sign... |

I quoted the wrong post, sorry! I went for the Amazon/Kindle $29.99 cover specifically because the description states it can be folded back. None of the other descriptions state I read this specifically.

OK sorry, I take it back... there is a picture if you scroll down the kindle cover page of the inside (not a good shot, but displays their "locking hinge".) Hun, I wonder how the m-edge will work... it doesn't look exactly the same. I will wait it out for m-edge because their covers are so pretty, plus I want the light.

heheh This is why I use a head lamp. It doesn't rub against anything and is great if you should happen to lose power during bad weather or something.

I fold my cover completely back and clip the Mighty Bright to the front cover. It does't touch my Kindle at all. I suspect it will work the same with my K2 |

That's just one reason you're a Professor! LOL No that is because I was nuts enough to keep going to school when I should have found a real job. I left academics 6 years ago and have been happily enjoying the real world. I know headlamps don't work for everyone but they work great for me. I do a decent amount of car camping and some backpacking. The head lamp is great for reading in the tent and taking care of other issues at night. Most have three or four light settings on them so you can control how much light you use. And they are great during emergencies. My building lost power for three days once and I was able to walk up and down stairs carrying lots of ice for folks because I had both hands free. Much more convenient then a regular flash light. And it doesn't leave any marks on Tavar's pretty Oberon cover. |

I like a head light for reading. I too do backpacking and some car camping and the headlight is almost essential. It's hard enough trying to put up the tent in the dark (there just has to be a better campsite a little further on) without trying to shine a light in the place I'm attempting to drive a tent stake. I also use one at work for the same reason (well, not the tent stake thing  ) Anyway the head light is second nature to me and I have even convinced my wife of it's simplicity for reading when the power goes off |

And headlamps work great on airplanes and trains and in cars. The light is focused on one area and you still have both hands free. I love having both hands free.
