This is an excellent article. Nice to see someone finally get this argument right.

The comments cracked me up. It was a good article, it actually takes into account that not everyone wants the same thing. I am tired of reading about the guys who want a device that can do it all...so of course the e-readers will fail because no one could be happy just reading! I think there is a big enough market for e-readers. There have been reading apps before, and ebooks have been around for a long time, but now there are great devices with support and content and they are doing well. That kind of implies that there is a market for such things.

Yep, it's just a matter of what one wants.
Dedicated devices will generally do their one task better as they're designed and optimized around that one task. Multi-function devices offer more convenience for people who need to do multiple things and don't want to lug around a bunch of devices.
I'll eventually get a tablet for sure, as I do want something with a big LDC screen and stylus markup for working with documents for work, checking e-mail, surfing the net on the couch, watching video etc.--stuff I currently do with printouts or my laptop and would prefer to do on a tablet. So I'm more of a multi function guy. That said I'll likely keep a Kindle on the night stand for novel reading.

I think that I would like a tablet for multi-tasking, but will continue to carry my Kindle with with me wherever I go. Can't imagine reading on anything else. I have been assimilated, I won't go back!

A great many people now reading and writing would be better employed keeping rabbits. Edith Sitwell Located just outside Little Rock, Arkansas Goal for 2012 = 100 books read, read so far = 60 Now reading = Maggie Get Your Gun - Kate Danley

Tablet I'd carry with me, Kindle would stay on the night stand like it does now. I'd also probably not take the Kindle on trips anymore as I could just read on the tablet during the trip since I'd have it with me for e-mail, internet etc. I don't mind reading on an iPad--prefer the Kindle, but I could read on LCD during a trip with no problems.
But I'm also not really an avid reader in the sense that I seldom read for more than 30-60 minutes, so that helps.

I don't believe there is any one answer to whcih is best, tablet vs. e-reader. If you read a lot you'll probably want a device optimized for that task. If you have a lot of tasks then the tablet will work better for you. To each there own. I intend to have both at some point.

Lol... I posted this last night... http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,33364.0.htmlGreat editorial...and I think Kindle 3rd Gen will really bring a ton of new people into eBook E-Ink readers. It got me The price and styling will do it. Now I can wait to see what apps are lined up as well as how good the webKit Browser can become.
