Well, I dropped it one too many times.  My poor K1.  I've for two years.  Part of the screen is dead.

So I bought the graphite K3 for $19.84.  I had a gift card that was going to cover my book habit for a year, but now has gone to the new K3.  Delivery date in mid September.

I will now read exclusively on my Ipad until then.

Sorry to hear about your K1.  I've had mine for almost two years also so I know how you feel.  I hadn't planned on updating either.... but had an Amazon gift certificate for $100 from last Christmas.  I did order the K3 in graphite because of the excellent price and the wonderful features that my K1 doesn't have, and I'm really looking forward to it.  I bet you'll love your new K3 also.... even though it was a purchase you hadn't anticipated.  Having the gift card sure does help soften the blow!!

Yes, I'm glad I had the gift card since my water heater broke this weekend as well.

Dropping the Kindle and having it land on the corner, even when it was protected inside an Oberon cover, has proven fatal.
