Not a very good quality review or anything, plus my voice sounds so annoying, but here's a quick first glance I uploaded to YouTube.

Thanks for posting, Erinath. I'm just wondering whether to push the boat out and order a new Kindle for my daughter. She's keen on paper books, but I think she'd be converted by the Kindle - so neat and convenient.

Sorry about the sound distortion at the beginning, think I had my finger over the mic or something.

wow. that is a great video..  and I love the button on the right...to navigate
and I love the page turn and all on the left...wowwwwwwwwwwwwww

i have a brand new dx white which will be a month old on aug 31.....

when I bought mine .. i think the K3 just came out for order.

reason for the DX as with my bad eyes I thought making the fonts bigger
with bigger screen would be better for me... and since I only take the dx
out occasionally when I go for appts....  it would serve my purpose better.

but that joy stick on the new K3 is great....dont like it on the DX

oh well  I will stick with what I have.. as it does what I need it to do..

EVERYONE ENJOY YOUR NEW KINDLE 3......... HOW WONDERFUL FOR UYOU ALL WHO ARE GETTING ONE..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful! Good first hand review, Erinath.
I'm waiting for next episode Smiley

I remember reading about microphone on K3, do you see one? Tried text to speach yet? talks about text command was also being rumored, do you see text commands (e.g. next page) feature working on this one?

Thanks.

Thank you, I have uploaded another video to YouTube showing the highlighting & note taking functions.

Yes there is a microphone, it's between where the usb & headphones plug in at the bottom.  I've tried text to speech a few times, my kids find it really funny.  It's an american male voice, but there has been an attempt to stop it from being too flat & monotone.  You can very easily switch this feature on & off just by pressing shift + Sym.  I'm afraid I don't know what you mean about text commands though - sorry, do you mind explaining further please?

Great videos, thanks for posting.  I am curious to hear what you think about the new "rubberized" back.

I find that the rubberized back is nice, but it doesn't feel soft rubbery, it's a firm slightly rubberized feel.  It does show fingerprints on the back though which bugs me so I will be ordering a skin.

I wonder how Decal Girl will hold on to the rubber backing of the K3 and if it won't be a smooth back to attach to?Huh Hmmmmm....

Great reviews btw, thank you!!!  Cool

Sorry, that was my mistake. What I meant is speech commands and not the text commands. Is there a functionality using speech commands (next / previous page) since they have provided the microphone!!

Erinath,
Thank you so much for taking the time to post those videos for us! I wanted to comment on the PDF video. Have you tried highlighting another PDF or just the one you showed in the video? I've had journal articles for my MA course this year that have done the same thing when I've tried highlighting on my computer. (ie broken text, not very precise) I was wondering, if maybe that PDF is of an old article, and if so, could you try a more recent PDF to see if it does the same.

Thank you again!

Thanks for all the videos, now I can't wait for my K3 to arrive!  I love your voice, it is very nice!  Hopefully a software update will correct the PDF highlight accuracy problem.  Again, thanks for taking the time to make these videos!  Smiley

Wonderfully helpful videos. Thank you so much for sharing.

A question. I'm about to switch to a Kindle (from Sony Readers), and was wondering about book organization.  Is it possible to have books grouped into collections? Say, by series name ("Harry Potter") or by descriptor tags ("fantasy" or "biography"). I'm a really big genre fiction reader (particularly series), and I'm sorely hoping the new Kindle accounts for that sort of thing.

Welcome, SchalZeal. Yes Kindle does have collections. If you do a search on "collections" you should find lots of threads with different organization tips and strategies. It's one of the reasons I'm excitedly waiting on my original Kindle replacement, because there are no collections on the first Kindle.

Since, I haven't used them yet, I can't speak very authoritatively, but Kindle collections are only one level, so you can't have folders within folders. However, you can put a book in more than one collection, so it's really a kind of tagging more than it is folders.

Fantastic. Thank you for the info, GBear! Indeed, the lack of Collections in the gen 1 is most of why I chose not to get it. So very excited about the change...now's the time to make the switch!
