The Moon in Deep Winter

Bestseller ranking: 460964

Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

I got this email from Amazon today and I need to reply back to them before they will release my book for sale

Dear Publisher,

Thanks for using Amazon DTP! We look forward to bringing your titles to the Kindle store, but before we do so, we just need a few quick things regarding these titles:
Then they had my title and ID number here.....

Then there was this part---
If the titles are public domain works, please reply back confirming this and include the information you used to make this determination for each title, which must include the following information. If the title is a collection of works, this information is required for each individual work:

1.    The initial publication date of the works

2.    Each author(s) and translator’s first and last name and dates of death

3.    Provide the URL to the online resource(s) used, which contains this information

If any of the title(s) are not public domain works and you have the rights necessary to distribute them on the Kindle store, please state that in your reply and include any documentation you have of your rights.

If you have any questions regarding the review process, you can write to us at title-submission@amazon.com. Please send all other inquiries to dtp-support@amazon.com
This was in my email today
The title of my books is: Empath The Collected Ghost Stories Of Nick Crowell: Paranormal Detective
Now are they having a problem with the name Empath?
Or a problem with one of the nine titles of the stories within?
It doesnt seem too clear to me
BUT--- as far as I am aware, NONE of the titles in the book OF the nine stories are public domain
I thought up the stories, i thought up the titles and I own all available rights for the collection

Anyone know what this email means ?
I am thinking its just a legality concern and they need my official reply so they can sign off on the book
I am not sure so I came here to see if i could get an answer or two
Thanks so much guys

People get that occasionally. It is mainly if your book has been published before, or has multiple authors listed, etc. I haven't heard of much difficulty getting it cleared up by those who encountered it.

Maybe they have a problem with thinking that Nick Crowell wrote them.

This happened to a friend of mine. All she had to do was send them proof that rights had reverted back to her.

Well how do i do that?
Scan a copy of the Demonminds contract that states the rights revert back to me after 6 months? (which happened in 2008!)

And the title--- maybe I should just call it...

 EMPATH
(Horror Stories)

What do you guys think?

The expired/reverted contract should be ample, and is probably what they are asking.  It still wouldn't be a public domain issue since you are still alive, etc., so they probably just want to verify that it is really you.  Just guessing.  CYA should work both ways, after all.

That should work. My novel had been published before, so I had to get the previous publisher to send Amazon an email stating that the rights had been reverted and are wholly mine now.

In fact, once they got that cleared up, they asked me for the same info when they were prepping the book for Amazon UK. I had to remind them that they already got the letter (and I sent a screenshot of it).

I got that letter too.  I just declared I was the author and owned all the rights to my work, and that was enough for them.

That will also show up if the title is still listed as being available in print at Amazon. We run into that every once in a while where we're producing the ebook version of something already in print. Once we send the proof they usually clear it in 24 hours.

Well I scanned the contract into the computer and sent a detailed letter to Amazon and that should do it

As for Mark's comment on them maybe thinking that Nick Crowell wrote them, I resubmitted it with a simpler title
So, Mark, thanks for that heads up. Readers may get confused as well so now it will read, EMPATH   HORROR STORIES
Hopefully the submission process will finish up and the book will be available by Tuesday (I hope)

Once done, I'll post it and also place the book cover in my signature here too
