So I got my lovely new K3 today and have been busy comparing it directly to my K2 (which is going to belong to my dear mother as soon as I take everything off it and deregister it). My question is this...
I have downloaded 7 books onto it via Calibre and it is still indexing the books. Meanwhile I was comparing page turns between the K2 and K3. The K2 seems to be winning in this regard by a slight amount. It just seems a bit faster. Is it likely that the indexing process is slowing the K3 down a bit? Has anyone else directly compared page turn speeds?
Everything else about it is vastly superior, from contrast to weight and many other things. I just wonder at the slow response time on page turns.

Indexing requires processor cycles, which will slow down page turns. Once indexing has completed, you should see the faster page turns.

I downloaded three books (one is Pillars of the Earth) and three samples to my new K3 Ruby a few hours ago. Would it still be indexing? Page turns seem slow. (Page turns didn't bother me with K1.) When page turns, I see reverse screen -- black with white print. Not long enough to know if it's old or new page. Then the new normal page. It is slow. Will that improve? Quick black flash wouldn't bother me, but that is not what's happening now.

On your home page, type in a nonsense word such as random letters, and do a search on that. If they are still indexing, it will tell you so. The number of books doesn't matter because sometimes they get "hung up" and just won't index. If that is the case, then delete those books and re-download them again, and give them a while to index again.

Didn't find what I searched on, so it's all indexed? Page turns will still speed up and not flash reverse soon?

The flash will always be there. . ..it's a function of the e-ink technology. . . .but after a while you probably won't notice it.

The reverse -- white print on black? Too fast to read of course, but I am definitely seeing that. Seems slow to me. When I first started turning pages earlier today, it was just quick black flash. That was OK.

My K3 finished indexing and the page turns on the K3 are now noticably faster than the K2. I push the forward buttons on both Kindles at the same time to compare and the K3 now wins in terms of speed. The page turn ' flash' is there but the K2 always does that too. It is the E-ink, all readers using this technology flash when changing pages. It doesn't bother me. Of course I've just dumped the rest of my library on the poor K3 so I can expect slower function while it indexes those.

I have a K1. Whatever flash it did at page turn didn't bother me. But now on K3, it's slow with flash of a reverse page -- white print on black. That is distracting.
I'll wait a while and see if that improves. If not, may call KCS and see what they say. (KCS. Oooooh. From job a lot of years ago, KCS = Kansas City Southern [railroad].)

OK. I'm "wait[ing] a moment" while it restarts.
ETA: No change. When I press next or previous page, the current page reverses (white print on black) and then changes the page. If seeing reverse page is normal, I can live with it. But if it's not, well -- KCS, send me a new one. Or will it still improve in time?
ETA2: Now it's slow enough that I can tell for certain that the reverse / white print is the new page, not the current page that you're leaving. It's that slow.

Oh well. Got out my K1 and turned some pages. It does the same thing. I never noticed or never thought anything of it?!
All is well. I love Ruby (In Paradise).
Haven't said it in this thread. I absolutely love the Kindle logo -- boy sitting under a tree reading.

OK - this issue popped up for me again last night. On the first day - after downloading many books - I had the slower page turns with the very distinct white type on black. When I started reading the next day, this issue appeared to be gone. Then, last night, in the middle of reading, my page turns appeared to slow down to half speed with very distinct white type on black. My whispernet was off - so nothing was downloading - and all of my books have indexed. I think I am going to call Kindle CS just in case and see what they say.......

Mine did this same thing. See my post: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,34270.msg621174.html#msg621174CS is replacing it and I should have a new one here today. I'll report back on how it goes.

I called KCS today about page turns. It is a subjective thing, but the more I think about it I wouldn't call what I have a "smooth reading experience". Person I talked to at KCS had me do a hard reset. No difference. He is going to check with higher up techies there and call me back within three days.
Wish I had another K3 that is working correctly to compare mine with.
