Got my K3 on Monday. It's my first Kindle so this may be old news to many of you, but I discovered the true purpose of the screensaver. If, while reading in bed, you look at the screen and see the screensaver, it's time to turn out the lights and go (back) to sleep.

Ha ha! I'm glad I'm not the only one that uses the screen saver to tell me it's bedtime

Haha, So true! Last night was my first night ever using an eReader. Because I didn't have to hold the book open and move my whole arm to turn pages, I think I fell asleep much faster. Or maybe it was more like being a kid on Christmas night and conking out...

Mine very rudely woke me up the other night by tipping forward with a thunk onto my chest (I was lying on my back).

And here I am, wishing I could fall asleep at will like all of you... ;'(.
But I'm kinda used to it, my brother's like that. Watching TV/a movie after 9PM with him staying awake all the way through is a rare thing. ^^

It can be a problem when you're dozing and open your eyes to see Emily Dickinson staring at you....No way I’m turning out the light then!

I've never fallen asleep while reading. I get sleepy and can't focus anymore and put my Kindle or book down and go to sleep! Even then it usually takes me a while to fall asleep.

This is sooo true for me and a reason I will LOVE reading with my own Kindle. When reading before bed with a real book I often open my eyes to find my page gone and because I fell asleep reading I don't know where the heck I was, lol. With the Kindle i'll always be where ever I was last. Awesome!

Wow, that is quite an accomplishment. I do this so often. I have even caught myself doing this while reading in a comfortable chair. When I read in bed I'm careful to position the Kindle where it will not fall off the bed when I doze off. Notice I said when not if.

*snort* I said the SAME thing outloud when I read that. She looks like zombie wannabe or something. That's one scary broad.

Which author is your favorite kindle screensaver?
It would be interesting if we could ask the authors featured as Kindle screensavers just how they feel about being part of the device. Of course that's not possible, however I have a feeling that Twain might find it amusing while Poe might find it macabre!

My favorite is John Steinbeck. He is easy on the eyes and I wouldn't mind waking up to see that screensaver staring at me.

He appeared once while reading THE GRAPES OF WRATH. A double dose of Steinbeck is always welcome!

Same same same. Plus I'm queen of 'just one more page... just one more page...'

Let's put some order on the house
I never (really) push the "off" button of my Kindle, so if I sleep while reading (and that occurs more frequently than I like to recognize) the screensaver is a sure sign I'm really sleepy. Otherwise, I push the sleep option just when I don't want to read more, and I get the same dead-screensavers we are used. Only, in very rare occasions, I really shut off my Kindle.
And the amazing thing is that the batteries seems to ignore both options, since I often add books or keep reading, they last for the normal 2 weeks (2Ki) specs.

I usually jerk awake when the Kindle falls forward, so I don't often wake up to dead authors. But it has happened.

At least it's not Oscar Wilde... He seriously gave me the creeps! But at least now with the new Amazon cover, the light turns off when the Kindle goes to sleep.. Then I don't have to look at them! For those of you like me that fall asleep while reading, I HIGHLY recommend a Peeramid pillow. They keep your Kindle reasonably safe. (Except for the one time when my K2 fell off the pillow, got covered with a blanket and I sat on it... But in 2 years of using the peeramid, that's only happened once....)

I never thought about that aspect of the lighted cover, that's cool! =)
