I've heard of a lot of problems with WiFi on K3's. My WiFi K3 is on order, but I'm wondering if I should switch to the K3 with WiFi and 3G, just to be safe.

Any thoughts?

disagree, most problems are caused my missing user knowledge toward their network environment or missing computer skills ...  Cool

Do you know your network password?  Have you been able to easily add other things into your network?  If so, you'll probably be OK with wi-fi only.

I agree with warp. . . . .most of the problems have been because the folks didn't know passwords or had a very long password that was difficult to get entered correctly -- make sure you can distinguish between "l" and "1" and "o", "O", and "0".  If you have trouble connecting when it arrives, you want to look in section 1.7 of the Users's Guide and possibly Chapter 7.  Locations ~490 and ~1595.

And please, please, please...don't blame Amazon or Kindle if you can't remember your own password.   Wink

I have to agree with you.  Smiley I think is one or both of the above.

I have had my WiFi K3 since August 26. I remembered my home network pwd and my stuff just downloaded like mad once it connected. I couldn't have been happier.

As for the WiFi around town, I have "tested" the download at two Starbucks (free WiFi) and at work. Every place, it connected & BAM downloaded my stuff practically instantly.

I'm a happy new K3 owner.

I agree with all above.....  I typed in my password and was connected in just a minute or two.  Easy as that!

Good luck!

I agree. The problems seem to be with not remembering passwords. I'll admit to that myself. I had to open up my secret encoded file to look up mine after it rejected what I typed three times.

Both my home WiFi and my MiFi card both immediately recognized the Kindle and worked just fine.

I think the WiFi is much better, and it is an order of magnitude faster. I think there are more people upset with AT&T 3G flakiness than people who are having WiFi issues. And as nearly every post said, the WiFi issues are user error in about 99.9% of the cases.

I have WiFi at home and at work.  My reason for getting the 3G is because I do not have a web-capable cell phone (nor do I want to pay for one) so the 3G Kindle gives me a way (a somewhat clumsy way, but a way) to search Wikipedia, check Twitter, send or read Gmail, and more using the simple mobile versions of sites.  So I can do those things when I'm the passenger in a car or just about anywhere I go.

I have my very long password on a card and when relatives come and want to use the wifi, I stand over them and SNATCH the card from their fingers when they are through!

Well, I have a Wifi and 3G coming because I am really hoping to travel again in the future so I felt that I needed the ability to use both....
