That was actually pretty fascinating... something I would have loved to do but never would have dared of trying. I admire your passion though man... you are like a crocodile hunter of electronics.

Very cool video. . . . .
FYI, Amazon sells a cover which has 'hinges' which are designed to fit into the slots on the side. . . . .one of the cover options they have has a built in light which is powered by the Kindle when it's turned on, thus explaining the power connectors there.
There's some speculation that this could ultimately lead to a cover that has a solar panel that could, in turn, charge the battery.

Wow. Most of this is way over my head but so interesting. I'd never have the guts to pull the back off of my Kindle. It's beautiful really and looks so organized.
Thank you.

Excellent video! I would have loved to see the underside of the eInk display, someone here said there are like 10,000 individual solder points connecting it, which doesn't sound possible to me, but then I have no background in electronics design either.
Thanks for posting!

Neat! Thank you for your effort and enthusiasm! Being technologically challenged, I didn't understand half of what you said, but I was still glued to the screen. (I did, however, put my Kindle in the other room with its cover on. It's still too young to see the innards of one of its own. ) N

As you guessed, there aren't 10,000 individual solder points on the back of the display. It really isn't that impressive from the back. You just see the back of the screen, a mylar ribbon cable that has a few components on and thats pretty much it. The cable connects to the Kindle board and its not got that many connections on it.

I don't know if you're still around, Dave, but thanks so much for the tour of the Kindle 3 innards! I have been known to take things apart with great abandon and sometimes it didn't work out well, but it was fun! I always loved prying open the cell phones. You saved my Kindle some bumps and bruises with this video. LOL! It's as sleek on the inside as the outside!
