OK, I'm sitting in my favorite recliner reading my Baby K and all of the sudden it restarts I'm thinking did I get an update and that is the reason it restarted? Not to worried, after all I've been using it for a week already and this was the first hiccup. Really getting into the story and every once in awhile looking at the TV when I hear something interesting. I look down and it restarts again. I'm getting worried now. No new books have been added, whispernet off and it is just resting in my hands. All of a sudden I realize when I look at the TV I rest it on my stomach and the sleep button slides so easy that I must move it without realizing it and when it slides and is held in place of course it restarts. Decided to test it and sure enough that is what happened. Note to self, loose weight. Grin

Oh, Kathy.... too funny!  Having the button on the bottom is definitely not one of Amazon's best design ideas... and I'm definitely having to be careful with mine too.  I'm about convinced that I'll be ordering a case once a few more designs come out (yes, I'm an Oberon aficiondo).  I really prefer reading hands free since I usually have a cup of coffee while reading.... and I have to pet the dog every once in a while... etc etc.  So, I have always liked having my K1 in its Oberon cover, reclining on a book stand on my lap.  The K3 is so lightweight that I like holding it too.... but the sliding button on the bottom is problematic and I think I need to get Shemar a new leather outfit/cover.

I think the Oberon cover normally has room at the bottom because of the corners, so I don't think it will be as big an issue. Having the little ledge will keep it from resting on the switch. I was pretty happy that it was something as easy as that wrong. I had visions of returning my sweet little baby after just applying the first skin.  Smiley

This is exactly what I was thinking.  When I bought my two Oberon covers for my K1, they didn't have the designs I wanted available in Kindle covers, so I actually bought journal covers and have been using them.  They will now go back to being journal covers... one for DH and one for me.... and I can buy a K3 cover from Oberon when they come out.  They don't have the Kindle come right out to the very edge of the cover to protect it ... so that should be enough to keep the bottom button up off the ledge on my book stand.  Amazon needs to move this button in their next generation Kindle IMHO.

I disagree on this point. The power switch on the bottom seems to have been the easiest change for me to adjust to and I now actually like it down there. My hands are never near the top when holding the Kindle and it is just more easily accessed down there. IMO.

The button on the bottom I can live with.

I am probably more overweight than anyone else in this thread and it hasn't given me problems.

The charging port being on the bottom is a much bigger design flaw. I often charge it while reading with the cable with a sharp bend from resting on my belly.

I did the same thing with my K2 and eventually the insulation came off that end of the cable of the cable and I had to order a new one.

I agree - it's also a problem if you are listening to any of the audio features on headphones - the headphone jack sticking out the bottom makes it impossible to rest it on anything, unless you lie it flat.

I still keep reaching for the ON/OFF switch on top because that is where it is/was on my other readers, including my new KDXG. Actually if they put all of the ports and switches on top that would be better. It is kind of uncomfortable to balance it on your belly when it has the recharge cable (or any other cable) plugged in.

Of course, we can solve all these button on the bottom problems by just changing the way the book is displayed on the screen.

Just press the Aa button. On the bottom the screen is an option that allows you to shift the way your books are displayed by 180 degrees. Then all the buttons will be on the top as you read your books.

This method makes it hard if you need to use the keyboard and it takes a while to get used to the previous and next page buttons. Otherwise, it works quite well.

I have gotten use to the buttons on the bottom. I think that I must have moved it and it caused it to go in the sleep mode and then when I held it in that position long enough it caused it to start back up. I like to read and watch TV at the same time and it will automatically go into sleep mode if I get involved with whatever program is showing. It was the first time it happened and I was perplexed on what would cause it. Now that I know I'll just be more careful.  Smiley

Why not just turn it sideways and rest it?

You could get a micro USB cable with a right angle connector:

My K3 in my Kindle Klassic Velcro cover works perfectly well. It is a little wider than necessary for the K3, but I am used to the width from carrying it the last two years.

I can live with everything on the bottom edge and haven't had an accidental switching.. mine isn't that easy to move!

But since I got an interim cover (until Oberons are out and in a design I like) is a Nook cover and I have the K3 in it upside down.  Still usually hold it with the ports "down" but there is and edge of the cover.  And when I'm not into using the keyboard, just reading, I've been turning the cover and K3 upside down and re-orienting the display.  I could have anything plugged in with no problem.
