So, while I was waiting patiently (well sort of) for my K3 to arrive I went to the library and borrowed a couple of books.  One of them is fantastic, but since my K3 is here I cannot bear the thought of reading it.  Its a hardcover and its all hard to hold in bed and makes my wrists sore etc etc, sooooo, what to do???  I have almost justified in my mind buying the Kindle book version and returning it to the library - its going to be overdue soon anyway.  Thats not wrong is it???

Seriously, this device is evil but I love it so much.  Grin

I know what you mean. It seems silly to go to the expense of buying a Kindle and then reading a DTB, whether a library book or not. If your budget can keep up with the amount of books you normally read then I would say buy the Kindle version, but if you think you're going to have to supplement your reading with library books anyway, you might as well read this one. If  you're in the US, over the long term it might be worth your while purchasing a Nook as well, since you can borrow ebooks from the library for that. Difficult choice!

I had a whole shelf of unread hardcovers when I got my first Kindle last year. Never read one of them, brought them to work and gave them to all the people who I usually shared books with. I have repurchased a few of them on Kindle, but I don't think all of them, although I'll never know since I didn't keep a list.

Yep, I'm guilty of that!!  I did that when I was reading the hardcover version of Drums of Autumn.  It was just too big and heavy and I couldn't adjust the font and it didn't automatically save my place! So it was a no brainer to spend $7 for the convenience of reading it on my nook (which I sold for a kindle). Smiley

I have some paper books still that I haven't read. . . . .I generally keep a paper book by the bed and read a chapter or two each evening. . . . the Kindle goes everywhere else.

I've even bought a few paper books since I first got a Kindle in July of 2008. . . . they're titles I want to read that are not yet available on Kindle. . . . .

But I have given away a lot of books that I had already read that I knew I'd never read again. . . . .

I'm so guilty of buying books I already have. It is normal. Once you start reading on the Kindle, you want to read on it all the time. Smiley

I recently brought A Dog's Life home from the library because it's $10.99 in the Kindle store--a $1 more than I was willing to pay.  But, less than a chapter into the book, I knew this book was a "keeper", plus I just wanted to curl up in bed and read it on my Kindle ON BIGGER FONT!  lol

I caved in and bought it on my Kindle.  I'm not willing to go above the $9.99 level for most books, but this was an exception.

BTW, the book is excellent!!!

I'm guilty of that too. But recently I've made a pact with myself that I don't buy anything that I cannot start reading right away. Hopefully, it may work... for a while.

That's probably a smart plan because prices oft go down.

I download the samples to remind me what I want to buy.

I'm also guilty.

I buy DTBs for my daughter; she has no interest in reading from the Kindle (silly girl).  If it's a book that I also want to read I end up buying the Kindle version for myself.

I guess I'm a Kindle snob.  I'm so over the DTB  Grin

I think that is pretty normal. I know that I bought An Echo in the Bone right before buying my Kindle and I still haven't finished reading it. Mostly because the thing is so darn huge I find it hard to read now.

I have purchased a few paperbacks since owning my Kindle but they are few and far in between and take me forever to actually read since I have so much on my Kindle still to read and really prefer that so much more.

I was reading a pretty big paperback the other day and noticed after reading for an hour or so my wrist was actually a little sore. I can't believe how much the Kindle has spoiled me. Tongue

The first book I ever bought for my Kindle was a book I already owned.  It's a thousand-page hardback and it was annoying to read, especially when I read in bed.  Go for it!  We're all in the same boat, so to speak.

I too was half way through reading Echo when I bought my first Kindle and I just couldn't resist getting the Kindle edition. I thought it would take me ages to find my place in such a huge book when there were no matching page numbers. But I just did a search for something on that page and a few seconds later I'd found my place and was happily reading - in a font size that suited my eyesight. I finished the second half of the book a good deal faster than I'd got through the first half.  Grin

I thought you were going to put there was something wrong with your Kindle lol. Those type of threads make me nervous Tongue

I never read hardbacks because they are too big. I always wait for paperback. Well now, i wait for them to come on my Kindle. But so far every book i've wanted has been on it which i'm super happy about! I've only bought 3 though otherwise i'd go so mad on spending.  Grin

I was considering re-reading Pillars before pre-ordering the K3. While waiting, I went ahead and got the Kindle version because I know it will be one I want later. Since his new book is coming out on Kindle and it is almost $20, it makes me wonder if his other books will stay the same price or if there will will be a change.

I am going to get Pillars of the Earth and The World Without End on Kindle... and of course his new one following different families through modern times should be equally outstanding. My wife won't read Pillars and it kills me because I LOVED those books, what an amazing story told with so much detail and emotion.

In the last few months I have bought 40 - 50 books and read about half of them so far. Even though I just purchased the Kindle 3 I still intend to buy DTB mainly because, in almost every instant, the DTB have been significantly cheaper than the Kindle version. Having said that I have just purchased 2 Kindle books from Amazon (UK) by Rhiannon Frater which cost a very reasonable £1.40 each and if more books come out at that sort of price I could see myself buying for the Kindle instead of for my bookshelf.
