So I returned the K2i in the original box using the UPS return label amazon created for me last MONDAY.

I dropped it off. However, it does not show on the UPS website as far as tracking. It just says the billing information received. When I called UPS they told me a couple things: 1. sometimes items don't track (really? so why would I bother then? UGH!) 2. It was a "RS" label which is a return authorization and they don't "scan" these in (really? that's news to me!) or 3. somehow the scan isn't working on it - maybe a drop of water or wrinkle or something.

So I called amazon to see if they got it back yet and they did not. I assume they send it back the slowest way possible to save money..and it's only been 4 day (today is day 5) but this makes me ULTRA nervous. If I can't track it, and it doesn't even show it was dropped off then what use is it??? I've never had this issue before.

The CS at amazon said to check back next week to see if it was received - but not to worry until it gets closer to the 30 day mark (which is October 16, 2010).

What has been your all experience with returning Kindles with amazon's supplied label?Huh I'm really freaked out..especially because I just bought a K3 so my replaced K2i is going to my dad...and my original K2i was a gift bought when they were $259 so that's what amazon says it will charge me if my K2i is not returned! I'm really upset!

I dropped my return off at the UPS store, they gave me a receipt with the Track Number.
Evidently Amazon recycles their return labels, it had a LOT of Arrivals to Lexington Ky from quite a few places.  After a day or so, my Departure showed up, and it was on its merry way.  A couple of days after my Track Number showed my delivery, I got an e-mail from Amazon stating it had been received.
Departure 9-9 Thursday.
Delivery 9-13 Monday.
Email Confirmation from Amazon receiving the return 9-14 Tuesday.
As long as you have your receipt, you shouldn't have to worry.

Unfortunately I do not have a receipt. They did not give me one...and I have never had an issue before so I didn't ask for it. I gave it, they took it, and I left.

That is the issue....which is why I'm freaked out. I've sent back many other things and sometimes I get a receipt and sometimes not - since I never had an issue I just never thought about it!

Can you at least see tracking info on your Amazon Return Center page?

I send 2 back so far, didn't get a receipt either. I gave those to my UPS driver, before I would drop it off at the UPS store and they just have a pile against the wall at ours and you just add to it, no receipt there either.

I write down the tracking numbers so I can check for myself. I wouldn't totally freak out yet, there have been instances where the scanning didn't happen until the end.

I just checked, the first one I send back I gave to my driver on the 10th, and it was delivered to the dock yesterday. It went from TX to KY in 6 days. So give it some more time.

I've a K3 on its way back. There's UPS tracking information for it until it arrived in the USA where it went into "exception" status for "correct classification" by customs. I described it as a faulty electronic e-reader on the customs form. Since then its gone back into "in transit" state but nothing more. Hopefully it is somewhere between PHILADELPHIA, PA and lab 126, CUPERTINO, CA.

Edit:

It's just gone back into exception but at least it seems to have made it out of customs three days later.

It took TWO WEEKS for my broken nook to get back to B&N in California from Chicago. I wouldn't worry after just 4 days.

Thank you all for reassuring me.

I have another Kindle 2 to send back..I'm going to get a receipt for this one for sure!

(They sent me one to replace my original which the right hand next page button broke..but the one they sent was also broken/defective so they send me another which works great...so this will be the second Kindle to send back)

I really appreciate the input. I won't worry then until late next week Smiley

When I sent back a Kindle I called them at about 10 days afterwards to confirm they'd received it... the rep went to check and they had only received it the day before (Mr. 007 had dropped it off at UPS without waiting for a receipt  Tongue) so, it probably takes longer than you might think... especially when you're nervous about it. (I think Murphy has a law about this.)  They'll send you an email to confirm it.   Cool

I'm probably overly paranoid, but when we're talking big ticket items, I'd rather spend the money on shipping it myself.  I inevitably send it via two day air with every form of delivery confirmation available--USPS flat rate priority boxes are great for this.  It's overkill, and I'm aware of that, but I've never had a return/exchange go missing either.  LOL

Good luck!  Hopefully it will turn up very soon!
