The display wasn't complete and I couldn't buy one yet.

It looks like Amazon is throwing some serious $$$ at the K3 presence in bricks & mortar stores - the K3 demo unit was on the edge of the aisle along the main footpath towards the front of the store. To the right, deeper in the aisle, were the B&N Nooks. On the back side of the display, invisible to customers entering the store, were the Sony units.

The Best Buy in the Chicago Suburb I was in, had all their ereaders in the same area - they did have Nooks, next to the Nooks was the Sony ereader - behind the Sony display was where they were going to put the Kindle - they had tags, and prices, but other then that the shelves were bare!

It was back by the "movie" section near where they put their vacuums, and sirius radio corner...

I was on the east side of Tucson today so decided to stop in and check out the K3 display, while I was standing there the store General Manager came up and asked me if I needed any help, I explained that I already had a K3 and in fact had it with me and showed it to him.  (I made a comment that mine actually worked, lol).  I told him that I was just checking out the display and was wondering when they were actually going to have any to sell, he said that they should be there at the end of the month, they will be selling both the wifi and the 3g/wifi and had the prices posted.  He also stated that his advance paperwork stated that they are also going to get the DX at some point in the near future.  During our conversation I asked him if the store associates were going to get any training on them and he wasn't sure at this time what kind of information they would be getting.  We spent quite a bit of time talking about Kindles and the other ereaders and while we were talking another person came up (I think she was a floor supervisor) and then another associate arrived and joined in the conversation.  We all stood there and talked about the Kindle and I was explaining things about them that they had no idea they were capable of like the web browser and the fact that you can download books from other locations besides Amazon.  At one point someone stated that I should be their Kindle associate, (maybe a second job is in the future). lol

I also took the opportunity to talk about Kindleboards and that one of our members had seen their display and had made a comment about it and that's what prompted me to stop in their store to see the display.  They were all very gracious and seemed to enjoy our conversation and were excited to see my K3.  I will be going back to check out the display in a couple of weeks and hopefully get to speak to these very nice Best Buy employees.

Now in keeping with the "talk like a pirate day"

Aargh matey, thanks for the heads up.

Hubs keeps telling me I need to go to work at Target, Staples or Best Buy. If I could guarantee that I'd work in the section with the eReaders I'd consider it... Then again, I'd try to convince everybody to buy a Kindle. <grin>

I was at the BB in Anniston AL yesterday and saw all three e-reader displays. Sony and Nook each had an endcap across the main aisle from each other, but the K3 was on a regular shelf on an inside aisle. Actually, the display was there but the shelves were empty. I don't know if the K3's were sold out or if they didn't have any yet, but there were spaces for both models.

The K3 is smaller than I expected (I have a K2) so it was nice to hold it and get a feel for the size, etc. I don't need to be sold on Kindles in general, but it would have been nice for a newbie if the unit actually worked. But the Sony units were "dummies" as well (I didn't check the Nook display unit).

My local BB in Arlington, TX has all three reader brands mentioned. They have the Nooks on their own shelf. But they have a small two-sided kiosk shelving unit about 3 feet wide with Sony readers on one side (the older models of course) and a single K3 on the other side. The K3 is turned on and running a demo, but they have no accessories or anything else around it--just bare shelves. I've never found anyone working there that knew anything about any of the readers though.
