Hello everyone. I recently decided to sell my Nook. The Nook was a good device, but I like the black Kindle and the fact that it has gotten much lighter.

I'm wondering what I can do, if anything, about the books that I have already purchased for my Nook, which are unfortunately in a different format.

Programs like Calibre wont convert them to Kindle because of the DRM built in to the files.

I've read about python scripts and some other things that all look very complicated.

All I want to do is get what I purchased over on the Kindle if I am in my rights to do so. I guess that is my first question - am I in my rights to do so?

Then, if the answer is yes, my second question. Is there really no easy way for someone that honestly purchased these books (and can prove it) to put on a different reader?

I don't know what B&N's Terms of Service says, but if it's like Amazon's, it probably says that you agree not to strip the DRM from the books you've purchased.  Many feel that if the original vendor goes out of business and stops supporting the device, this would no longer apply.  But simply deciding to switch devices wouldn't count.

Here on KindleBoards we don't permit discussions of or links to methods for stripping DRM.

If you have a computer/iDevice/smartphone, you could get the nook application and at least still have access to the books that way.

If you are financially able to do so, you might consider keeping the Nook.  You can have more than one ereader, you know.  Grin  I'm thinking of getting a nook to supplement my Kindle and to be able to read library books (though that may not be important to you).  Then you will still have access to those books.

And, as Ann said, you can still read on one of the nook apps that are available for various devices.  (I read nook books on my nook for iPad.)

Thanks for  your replies.

I could not justify keeping two readers, so the nook is already gone.

Ann, my intent here was not to seek a way to strip out the DRM.
I was looking for a way to convert or read the epub books I already purchased on the Kindle.
By your comments I am guessing that the only way to do it is to strip out the DRM (which I am not asking how to do)
and I am also guessing that converting them to a different format with the DRM intact is not an option.

Although I would prefer to read them on my Kindle, the use of the Nook app is an option. But I bought an ebook reader because using standard LCD displays to read for any length of time really bothers my eyes.

Although I really like the whole concept of ebook readers and have not bought a hard copy since I first received one, in my opinion not being able to read some ebooks,  that you legally purchased,  on any ebook reader that you purchase, is a major negative issue for the whole ebook concept.

There is no way to move EPub books bought through B&N or Sony or Borders without stripping the DRM. A goggle search will show you how to do this if you are interested.

There are plenty of folks who would say stripping the DRM is illegal. There are plenty of folks who say that stripping th DRM is perfectly legal based on recent legal rulings. Only you can determine what you are comfortable doing.

I would not strip DRM but that is because I am lazy more then anything.

I have yet to own either a nook, or a kindle. I'm hoping to get some kind of electronic reader for my birthday. Let me know if you like the kindle better than the nook.
