I removed the Amazon tag from the elastic strap that holds the cover closed, mostly because I didn't want the Amazon logo to identify it as an eReader. I'm using the strap more that I thought I would, because the cover doesn't stay flat without it. But I'm having a lot of trouble removing it when I want to open the cover to read.

Any suggestions for what I could do to the strap to enable me to get ahold of it to open the cover more easily?

Hmm, depending on your level of craftiness... sew a fabric tab around the cord, attach a small charm, use an old french wire earring that has lost its mate and twist the wire around the cord, or even hook a paperclip around it Smiley

I have a heart charm I want to attach to it, but I need a jump ring a bit bigger than the strap. To buy one I'd have to buy like 100. I'm gonna see if I have an old piece of jewelry with one I can use.

I thought of ribbon, but it'd be hard to knot that around the strap without making it too tight to move it up and down easily.

Try a hardware store for jump rings. You should be able to buy them by the piece with all the other small pieces of hardware in little drawers, or in smaller quantity bags. I bet Lowes or somewhere like that has them. Our small town has tons of little things like that in tiny little drawers for just pennies apiece.

Excellent idea - and one I wouldn't have thought of. Thanks, Tam!

I love our little hardware store - it's right across Main St. from my hubby's office and we run a monthly tab there. So many times we need something small - like a rubber washer or unusual-sized light bulbs - and we get it there for a fraction of the cost to order it from a dental supply company. The handle of the Anderson door in our kitchen at home had an allen screw fall out and get lost outside - I replaced the screw for 3 cents! The rubber washers on our dental water sprayers dry out eventually - they cost $10 apiece from the company, but the EXACT same washer is 5 cents at the hardware store! If he doesn't have the item on hand, he can usually order it for us too!

Try looking at a Dollar Store.  We have one that has a jewelry making section and even though you still have to buy more than one, the package only costs a dollar.

Tam - We used to have one of those little hardware stores. I loved that place! It's been gone for over 10 years, and we still miss it.

kindlegrl81 - Thanks for that suggestion. I never would have thought of that!
