"Updating kindle" not updating?

I have a kindle 2 US. 

Has anyone else have their kindle update the software or say that it is updating the software, and remain at the same version after the update?

I have been on 2.5.6 since it first came out. I just looked down, saw my kindle say that it was updating, watch it restart, and check the version. It was 2.5.6.

I'm confused.

I think you might actually have the most recent update.

Yes. I do have the most recent update. The part that is  confusing me is the fact that I had the most recent update /before the kindle tried to update/.


I don't understand why my kindle tried to update when there wasn't a newer version to update to.

Does it keep trying to do it, or was it a one-time deal?

It just happened the once.

Oh. There are a couple of KB threads about it trying to update...then restarting...then trying to update again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I guess if it was just the once, it might just be a random computer glitch?

The part that really got to me is that this is once, months later. That's why I'm asking people. If it was just when updating then it'd make sense, but arbitrarily "updating" months later is really confusing me.
