Hello, fellow Kindleboards members!

After writing newspaper commentary for many years, I sought to follow in Erma Bombeck’s footsteps. Unfortunately, I did this right about the time newspaper readership (and newspapers) were diminishing. That led me to “Plan B”: Find an agent. I tried, but the process seemed slow and difficult. No platform, no interest. Clean humor for baby boomers? How do you pitch that?

My first humor book, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road: Humorous Views on Love, Lust, & Lawn Care, was published by a “relationship publisher” (which means they controlled the relationship with the wholesaler while I put up all the money, assumed all the risk, and had to store thousands of books). Reviews were good. And the book sold modestly well for a first-time, unknown author.

Then I discovered print-on-demand!

My second book, Deedee Divine’s Totally Skewed Guide to Life, was published by my own micro-press, Totally Skewed Productions (Corncob Press imprint). You can read about my steep learning curve here: http://freshfictionbooks.blogspot.com/2008/12/diana-estill-story-behind-deedee.html

To my surprise, this title became a ForeWord Book of the Year Finalist. And I was fortunate enough to garner a positive review from Midwest Book Review.

"Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life" belongs in the collection of any library strong in humor essays. Outrageous advice on why women won't read maps, health and beauty pursuits, food and fitness, and more make for a series of hilarious comments on the human condition in a zany, fun read perfect for general lending libraries. –- Midwest Book Review

Recently, I made both titles available on Kindle.

Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road ($2.99, currently discounted by Amazon to $1.99, Kindle) was inspired by an attempt to drive a British car on the left side of the road. This book includes tales of misadventures in travel and home repairs, as well as advice on topics such as “Football terms for dummies” and how to get your bedmate to stop snoring.

Deedee Divine’s Totally Skewed Guide to Life ($2.99, Kindle) explains why “family that doesn’t kill you make you stronger” and “love means never having to say ‘excuse me.’” (That’s a personal favorite, but if you’re offended by fart humor you might want to skip past that one.) I’ve also outlined the “seven habits of highly self-absorbed people” and included an entire section on marital advice. I think we can all agree husbands should simply avoid using the B-word, “budget.”

Thank you for reading all the way to here! I look forward to meeting you!

Diana

P.S. I will insert bookcover images when I figure out how to do that.  Smiley

Welcome to KindleBoards, Diana, and congratulations on your book!

(If you've gotten this welcome before, it's just as a matter of housekeeping. We like to put a copy of the "welcome letter" in each book thread.  It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, it just helps us know that you know the rules.)

A brief recap of our rules follows:

--We invite you to use your book cover as your avatar and have links to your book and website in your signature.

--Please bookmark this thread (using your browser's bookmark/favorite function) so you can update it as we ask that authors have only one thread per book and add to it when there is more information.  You may start a separate thread for each book (or you may have one thread per series of books, or one thread for all of your books, it's your choice). A new post that starts a new thread, when you already have one for a given book, may be deleted.

--While we encourage you to respond to member posts, you may not make back-to-back posts that are less than 7 days apart.  Once you've responded to a member, that resets the clock to zero and you must, again, wait seven days to post, unless another member posts before then. "Premature" posts may be deleted.

--We ask that Amazon reviews not be repeated here, in whole or in part, as they are easy to find via a link to your Amazon book page. (You may post the link.)  Similarly, full reviews from other sites should not be posted here, but you may post a short blurb and a link to the full review instead.

--Although self-promotion is limited to the Book Bazaar, our most successful authors have found the best way to promote their books is to be as active throughout KindleBoards as time allows.  This is your target audience--book lovers with Kindles!  Please note that putting link information in the body of your posts constitutes self promotion; please leave your links for your profile signature that will automatically appear on each post.

All this, and more, is included in our Forum Decorum: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,36.0.html.  Be sure to check it from time to time for the current guidelines and rules.

Oh, and one more thing:  be sure to check out the index threads at the top of the Book Bazaar. . . .there are details there about how you can be listed so that our readers can find you.

Thanks for being part of KindleBoards!  Feel free to send us a PM if you have any questions.
