Product Description
Fishing’s Greatest Misadventures presents twenty-six true stories which cover the spectrum from terrifying to comical to downright bizarre. In these pages everyday fishermen, pros, and journalists tell their stories of freak accidents, fishy attacks, pranks, idiotic decisions, eerie or unexplained incidents, and other jaw dropping, adrenalin-pumping calamities. The stories bring to life the strange possibilities that await us once we cast our lines into known and unknown waters.

Here are some of the characters you'll meet inside these pages:

* A sport fisherman who gets taken on harrowing underwater ride by an angry white shark.
* An adventure angler whose boat is over turned by a 200 lb Amazon-river catfish.

I did take my kindle to church yesterday, but it was difficult to follow the sermon because he kept bouncing around and it is not particularly fast to move in the kindle.  I have gotten rid of all my DTV of the Bible, even my study Bible I just was not happy with any study book I had.  We are having a Bible study now, but I want to study the BIBLE, not what some expert thinks abut Matthew 18, or some such.  So I might just have to quit unless we get back to what we are supposed to do.  One other person agrees with me so we shall see.

I have three Bibles on my kindle, one I actually paid 9.99 for, the rest were free, and I also got the Dummy Book for Bibles, still going through that very slowly.

Dona what is your take on the Dummy Book for Bibles?

You can also get free Christian music downloads at http://www.volummonster.com. This site features up-and-coming Christian artists who are trying to get their music "out there" and heard. They post download codes to be used for the free music. I have gotten many new, awesome songs from this site. Some codes can only be used once. I love this site!

Linda - I do like the Dummy book, it does help someone who has never had a good education in the Bible to understand it.  I will be honest though I do like mw's comments more  Wink  It is also something to read on the bus because I don't get so involved in it as I do a fiction book.

Someone at church told me about eSword yesterday. I downloaded it with most of the free components and it looks to be a very useful tool for Bible study. You download the main thing and install it. Then when you have it running, up on top it has a tab for Downloads and you download Bibles, Commentaries, Devotions, Graphics, etc. A lot of the stuff is free. There are some things you have to pay for the key to them. I just downloaded free stuff and it looks like a valuable tool.

Wow Suzanne you're not kidding! I just downloaded it myself with a bunch of free add-ons. I plan to buy some of the premium add-ons when finances allow. :-)

Like many of you, I have several copies of the bible.
Including study bibles and one with multiple translations in the same book.
My companion is my NIV that I have had for a long time now.

I keep both a copy of the NIV and the TNIV on the K2.
I find it very useful to have a copy of the bible with me at all times.
It didn't used to be convenient to do so.

So I have one more reason to love my K2.

Just sayin......

Is anyone else getting tired of all the destruction in the OT?  I guess it is making me think of too many similarities of nowadays.

I have never read any of the Apocrypha and sure wish this was included.

Yes.  I'm kinda embarrassed to admit it, but I've just been skimming Ezekial, not reading it closely.

Perhaps I can just quote it from the free book thread.

I just found this one on the Kindle bestsellers list ( #19 on the list right now)...

Halley's Bible Handbook with the New International Version by Henry H. Halley

FREE

Edit:  Woo hoo!  It worked.

Thanks Martin - I have barely gotten into this book and it appears it is going to be very valuable as far as Bible Study/Reading is concerned.

There is another free program (actually a variety of programs for Windows, Mac, Linux, mobile phones to choose from that use the same modules/add-ons) that I've found very useful.  It has a similar name - the Sword Project but is not related to e-sword.  They have tons of Bible translations in many different languages and Christian materials such as dictionaries and encyclopedias.  They have even some modern translations for which they obtained permission to distribute them for free.

For PCs and Macs:

Available modules (almost all free):

I have three Bibles on my kindle, one I actually paid 9.99 for, the rest were free, and I also got the Dummy Book for Bibles, still going through that very slowly.

I've been working on addressing the issue of slow navigation in Kindle Bibles.  I have come up with the Direct Verse Jump, which I believe has completely solved the problem.  Instead of my words, I will quote another member from Kindle Boards (hopefully she wouldn't mind):

Holy Bible: King James Version (KJV) (with Direct Verse Jump)

and
World English Bible (WEB) (with Direct Verse Jump)

and
NET Bible First Edition (with notes)

All of these have been optimized for Kindle by Osnova from the Kindle Boards here.  Because of the direct jump feature, you can easily bounce around scripture on Kindle as quickly as you can a dead tree version once you have learned the abbreviations of each book.  I purchased them after reading this thread:  http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php?topic=14749.0

If only Zondervan would do something similar to my favorite, The NIV Life Application Bible.  Due to copyright, Osnova can't optimize the NIV version.  But, I grew up on the KJV, so it's been nice to revisit the KJV...  and Osnova's version looks beautiful on the Kindle and is very user friendly.

I enjoy using the Kindle during worship and Bible classes.  It doesn't appear to be distracting to others.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I have sampled them all. I definitely would enjoy the Direct Verse Jump, I still use my DTV at church and when I want to look at a specific scripture.

Osnova, am I correct that these bibles do not work on the Kindle 1?

I had some reports that people are using my Bible editions on Kindle 1, and that Direct Verse Jump works well (the search may take longer because K1 searches all books and not just the opened one - at least that's what I was told).  However, apparently there are some limitations (table of contents links are limited to 13? per page or something like that).

I've been looking for someone with K1 in my area to figure out how to address those limitations but so far I couldn't find anybody.  I'm in Northern Virginia near DC.  If I locate a K1 for some time, I may release a version just for K1.

If I had a spare K1, I would be happy to help you out... But, all I have is the one and I just can't be without KWINN for any length of time!

I love having the One Year Bible on my Kindle.  I try to read two days of Bible reading everyday.  It's super easy to stay on track and I don't have to carry a big Bible with me.  I easily switch over to one of my novels after I complete my Bible reading.

I keep my study Bible open when I want to reference a passage.

I also have Max Lucado's Everyday Blessings on my Kindle.  This is a quick tidbit to think about everyday.
