I did take my kindle to church yesterday, but it was difficult to follow the sermon because he kept bouncing around and it is not particularly fast to move in the kindle. I have gotten rid of all my DTV of the Bible, even my study Bible I just was not happy with any study book I had. We are having a Bible study now, but I want to study the BIBLE, not what some expert thinks abut Matthew 18, or some such. So I might just have to quit unless we get back to what we are supposed to do. One other person agrees with me so we shall see.
I have three Bibles on my kindle, one I actually paid 9.99 for, the rest were free, and I also got the Dummy Book for Bibles, still going through that very slowly.
Dona what is your take on the Dummy Book for Bibles?

Linda - I do like the Dummy book, it does help someone who has never had a good education in the Bible to understand it. I will be honest though I do like mw's comments more It is also something to read on the bus because I don't get so involved in it as I do a fiction book.

Someone at church told me about eSword yesterday. I downloaded it with most of the free components and it looks to be a very useful tool for Bible study. You download the main thing and install it. Then when you have it running, up on top it has a tab for Downloads and you download Bibles, Commentaries, Devotions, Graphics, etc. A lot of the stuff is free. There are some things you have to pay for the key to them. I just downloaded free stuff and it looks like a valuable tool. http://www.e-sword.net/

Wow Suzanne you're not kidding! I just downloaded it myself with a bunch of free add-ons. I plan to buy some of the premium add-ons when finances allow. :-)

Like many of you, I have several copies of the bible. Including study bibles and one with multiple translations in the same book. My companion is my NIV that I have had for a long time now.
I keep both a copy of the NIV and the TNIV on the K2. I find it very useful to have a copy of the bible with me at all times. It didn't used to be convenient to do so.
So I have one more reason to love my K2.
Just sayin......

Is anyone else getting tired of all the destruction in the OT? I guess it is making me think of too many similarities of nowadays.
I have never read any of the Apocrypha and sure wish this was included.

Thanks Martin - I have barely gotten into this book and it appears it is going to be very valuable as far as Bible Study/Reading is concerned.

It has a similar name - the Sword Project but is not related to e-sword. They have tons of Bible translations in many different languages and Christian materials such as dictionaries and encyclopedias. They have even some modern translations for which they obtained permission to distribute them for free. For PCs and Macs: http://www.crosswire.org/wiki/Main_PageAvailable modules (almost all free): http://www.crosswire.org/sword/modules/index.jspFor your cellphone: http://gobible.jolon.org/http://jolon.org/vanillaforum/?CategoryID=2

I've been working on addressing the issue of slow navigation in Kindle Bibles. I have come up with the Direct Verse Jump, which I believe has completely solved the problem. Instead of my words, I will quote another member from Kindle Boards (hopefully she wouldn't mind):

Thanks for all the suggestions, I have sampled them all. I definitely would enjoy the Direct Verse Jump, I still use my DTV at church and when I want to look at a specific scripture.

Osnova, am I correct that these bibles do not work on the Kindle 1?
I had some reports that people are using my Bible editions on Kindle 1, and that Direct Verse Jump works well (the search may take longer because K1 searches all books and not just the opened one - at least that's what I was told). However, apparently there are some limitations (table of contents links are limited to 13? per page or something like that). I've been looking for someone with K1 in my area to figure out how to address those limitations but so far I couldn't find anybody. I'm in Northern Virginia near DC. If I locate a K1 for some time, I may release a version just for K1.

I love having the One Year Bible on my Kindle. I try to read two days of Bible reading everyday. It's super easy to stay on track and I don't have to carry a big Bible with me. I easily switch over to one of my novels after I complete my Bible reading.
I keep my study Bible open when I want to reference a passage.
I also have Max Lucado's Everyday Blessings on my Kindle. This is a quick tidbit to think about everyday.
