I live in China and use a VPN Will the Kindle work?

I live in China, and I'm a martial artist.I've been here for a 1.5 years and I'm gonna be here for the next 5 years and Would like to get me a kindle because getting books sent here is really a troublesome ordeal. I know each country has different books available and I use a VPN which makes it look like I'm coming from the USA. No when you Download a book, does it download to your computer than you put it on the Kindle?
I'd like to know before I make the purchase!

I don't think the Kindle will connect through a VPN--But you can download to your PC then put it onto your Kindle using the USB Cable.

No VPN support on the Kindle. However, what Shari said. You can download the books to your computer and transfer them to the Kindle via USB cable. The Kindle looks like a USB drive and you drop the book in the Documents folder.
