I read The Surgeon, the first in this series, not long ago, and just started the second book, The Apprentice. Book 2 refers to Rizzoli's love interest being killed by the surgeon in the first book - but I don't remember her having a love interest or anyone close to her being killed.

Did I miss something, or did these events happen between books?

Not the FBI guy; she eventually marries him.  I've read the entire series, but for the life of me I can't remember.

I'm about halfway through The Surgeon, so will be on the lookout and let you know if I discover the answer.  I haven't read a medical thriller in a long time, and it seems to me this one is rather gory, which has bothered me a bit, but I"m sticking with it because this is a nice, long series with lots of books.

I'm reading the 2nd book, and there's an FBI agent that she seems to be getting interested in. But I don't remember anyone from the 1st book.
