I'm going to get a Kindle 3, w/3G, and planned to get a white one because I was a little concerned about the issue that has been discussed in this board about wear on the letters for the graphite.  However, I have also read that some people think the graphite-colored frame makes the screen appear to have better contrast than the white one.

So... I'd love to hear from anyone who has an opinion on the contrast issue.  Obviously they are the same screen, but I'd just like to get a sampling of people who think the white frame is worse, better, or equal from the standpoint of reading ease.  Thanks.

I have the Graphite K3 and no problems with the keyboard. The contrast is amazing and I've grown quite fond of the sophisticated look of the Graphite (I had a white K2 in the past).

The only reason I chose the Graphite was because of the better contrast and it hasn't failed to deliver Smiley

My sentiments entirely.

I very much like my choice of white K3 wifi/3G.  I never had a good look at graphite until I saw it recently in a Microsoft Store.  I ordered a DX yesterday.  Will be here tomorrow.  No choice in that -- graphite.

Graphite seems to be very popular.  But the whole thing looks so dark to me.  I like to lighten / brighten it up -- so white is my choice, if I have a choice.

I did get the graphite and it did seem to have better contrast.

However, I am only comparing it to a K1 and K2. I have never seen a K3.

If you are like me, it won't matter much anyway.

As soon as they were available, I got a DecalGirl skin for it.

Ok...I appreciate the responses I've gotten.  But I'm surprised to not hear from more people with the white K3 or who have compared the white with the graphite in terms of "apparent" screen contrast.  Anyone else want to chime in here?  Thanks.

I am the only one in my family that has a white K3--my mom, stepson, and husband all chose the graphite. I picked the white because I thought that it would look better with the pink case.

I don't see any difference in the screen contrast between mine and my husbands.

I have graphite in Dx and K3.  I am wishing I had the white instead.  It is difficult for me to see the keys when reading at night, even with the Kandle.  Also I have some wear on the keys with the k3.  Although I think I like the darker contrast better, I could have gotten that with a skin I think.

I'm still using a K2 (received last Christmas).  I didn't have any trouble reading with the white body.  A few weeks after using it I ordered a "Solid State Black" skin from Decalgirl.  It has definitely been easier on my eyes and it seems like it does help with contrast.

So... I would assume the graphite might be easier on the eyes for most people, but don't forget you can always put a skin on if you want to darken it up whether you go with white or graphite.

I got myself a graphite 3G/wifi for my birthday in Oct, no letter fading issue so far. I am only happy $189 is the 'ultimate' price I gotta pay for this toy and I don't need to budget an extra $19.99 (ok I see some DecalGirl skins are selling $17.99 and GelaSkins is around $10 now) for the skin.  Grin
