I also went with this cover and I am very pleased with it. I do wish it had some kind of closure. I read on another board that someone was using a ponytail holder to go around the cover to keep closed. It works....but I will soon have a BorsaBella bag to fix that issue.

Okay so, this is probably not a common problem, but when I hold something for a while, my hands start to sweat. The Amazon cover (when folded back) is lined with some kind of fabric. I couldn't hold it comfortably because my fingers would start to sweat as soon as I held it. When I received my Oberon, I thought the same would happen. But the Oberon wool doesn't seem to have the same effect on my fingers, and also because the strip is narrower (not across the entire back) I can avoid it if I want to.
The Amazon cover really is very good, I like how it folds back better than the Oberon and I like how light it is, but I just can't handle how the fabric makes my fingers sweat.

Hi All -- I bought my wife the Kindle 2 and Amazon Cover in March and in less than 60 days the front of the kindle is cracked where the hooks connect. The angle of the hooks are putting pressure on the plastic causing hairline cracks!!! Amazon is sending out a new kindle but I cannot recommend that cover or that hook system for such a great product!

Hmmm...I have had my K2 in an Amazon cover since I got it at the end of Feb and I have had no issues. I love the hinge system and honestly that is about the only thing keeping me from an Oberon is that I don't want to add velcro and I don't like the corners. It seems to me that the defect in this case (no pun intended) may be the plastic on the Kindle not the cover.

I think I agree with Rhiathame.
Considering the "squeaky" cases and fading screens, I would suspect the individual case or possibly even the particular cover. I have had my K2 in the Amazon cover since I got it on Feb 25th and just this past week moved it to a Medge Go cover with the same hinge system. Just love my K2 and love both covers.
Just sayin.......

I only used the Amazon case until I got my Oberon - but - it didn't creak until i started using the Amazon case and when I put it in the Oberon it barely creaks at all. I've thought this might be the case for some time that the hooks may cause undue pressure on the case.

thats some great info to share, but it only affects the 1% of people on this forum who haven't bought a oberon case as yet  I'm in that 1%  I love my Cole Haan! No Oberon for me. I also have the new M-edge Go! which IMO is nicer than the Amazon, at the same size/thickness and uses the hinges. It's more rigid than the CH (and less expensive), so I plan to use that for travel. |

Sounds like that was a weak Amazon plastic casing. I've had mine since the last week of February and used it everyday until last week, when I added the M-Edge Platform jacket when I want it to stand up. There's not a mark or other problem from my use of the hinged Amazon cover. I did a picture feature on how the hinged thing works for people who were having problems with it at the time, at http://kindleworld.blogspot.com/2009/03/kindle-cover-and-its-hinged-protection.html and the only reason I went for an add'l cover was the ability to just have it standing when I am eating somewhere and can't hold it up, and the M-Edge Platform cover really works well for that. We already have good Platform pics on this forum but I took some extra ones while wandering stores and restaurants this weekend: http://www.pbase.com/andrys/kindle2 These were all taken with my cell phone though, so detail is not of the highest order. |

I just got my Kindle and the black Amazon cover which sells with it. I like it but think I might velcro the K to the back so it cannot flop around.
As for the logo, it looks very nice and more importantly helps you not open it the wrong way which can stress the hinges.

Straps or zippers are only important if your using your kindle somewhere that it has a chance of getting dirty. I take my kindle to work with me at a production plant to read during my breaks, and I have a case that zips all the way around. Even after 2months my kindle looks brand new even after reading it everyday in a dirty work environment.

I have this cover. It came with my Kindle (a gift)
It took me forever to work out how to attach it... well to be honest my husband did it for me. But now that it's on, I really like it. It's great for reading in bed. But, I'd really like something a bit bolder, in red or blue.

For anyone thinking about purchasing the Amazon Kindle cover, the design has been changed again     as well as Burgundy Red -- the link for that pic wouldn't work for some reason /sigh The pink color clearly shows the new elastic closure and leather pull tab with the logo imprinted on it. This elastic band is then used for securing the right side of the Kindle to the cover while you read. It's a nifty design and people are loving the colors, pink and red are already sold out! The hinge on my cover works perfectly, and detailed instructions are included with the cover. The new price is $35, altho I only paid $30 for mine when I purchased it a couple months ago. One last point, the awful smell that people on the Amazon boards complain about isn't from the book itself, but rather from the "plastic" packaging material. The book really does air out within a few days; just make sure to close the packaging securely or dispose of it altogether if the smell is bothersome! |

A "fix" is available for those worried about the spine hinge cracking the Kindle/screen on Amazon.com.
I won't post it here (since I'm the designer/seller of it and have an interest in promoting it!) but the board users should be aware of it.
