My wife's K1 was the first to arrive as a birthday present  (over two years ago), followed by my K1 (almost two years ago). We've just absolutely loved them. I think I've read more each month than I did for each entire year prior to having my Kindle.

Our youngest daughter started showing interest in Kindles this past summer since her college courses started loading her up on books (she found quite a few of the literature books available in Kindle format) that made her backpack almost as big as her. This summer, we got her a K3 for her birthday and I don't think it has left her side since.

About three weeks ago, my wife dropped her Kindle and the screen cracked while transferring it from the zip-lock baggie she uses in the tub to its case. She was so distraught. I took advantage of the $75 offer Amazon gave on replacing her beloved K1, so there is now a new K3 under the Christmas tree for her. She already knows about it since the $75 credit went onto her Amazon account (but she is being good and waiting to open it) and has already been shopping cases and skins.

Our other daughter asked for one for Christmas as well. She is getting ready for her second tour in Iraq after the new year. Her K3 just arrived today and will be under the Christmas tree for her as well (along with a case to help protect from sand). We plan on loading her up with ebooks before she deploys in early January.

So, I'm feeling a little left behind with my K1 in a house full of K3's. I'm not about to give it up that quickly, but it was interesting to see how much my wife's first K1 influenced the rest of us to not only want Kindles, but also increased all of us in our reading. We had to laugh since this is turning into a Kindle Christmas (devices, cases, skins, even Amazon gift certificates from the grandparents).

I have owned 3 Kindles myself and given as gifts 4 more.  And, my father just showed an interest in one, which totally surprised me.

This is so true.  Since I got my K3, so many family and friends that have seen it are intrigued and are now considering getting their own.  I predict in 5 years almost any half-serious reader will have an eReader of some sort, even if it's just for periodicals.

I was given a K2 for Christmas last year, which my wife currently uses. I've now got a K3 and a DX, and my 6-yr old daughter has a Kobo. Once our 4-yr old boy is reading, he'll likely end up with an ereader as well.

They're worse than rabbits, I swear.

At least you don't have to wonder what to buy for Christmas.  Smiley

This is a great story. Thanks for sharing it.

You don't have to feed them either!  Well unless you count the 1's and 0's that comprise our eBooks.  But you can even get most of that "food" for free or very cheaply.
