Has anyone else had this happen? My Kindle2 is very gently handled, only bought it in March 2010 and it never leaves my bedside table. I have the leather cover that is sold by Amazon which seems to be a great protector, but I just noticed that the front plastic casing of the Kindle itslef has cracks appearing to the front of both areas where the hooks insert from the cover. YIKES! One is over an inch long! (I read in very low light and might not have noticed them for weeks.)

I have the extended warranty and have sent an email to Amazon Kindle support but I wonder if this has happened to others? It must have! Angry

Yes, this was reported to be an issue many times with the K2 and the Amazon hinged cover.

Don't wait on the e-mail.. Call Kindle CS.. no, it shouldn't happen, Mine cracked between the Menu & Next Page button, that little part just broke off one day, I had a replacement 16 hours after making the call.

Excellent. I got a canned email reply telling me to call also. I won't have time to call today but maybe tomorrow. At least it still works fine. Thanks!

You might want to be certain to speak with *Kindle* customer service rather than the regular Amazon customer service.  Here's the number if you need it:

Kindle Customer Service  1.866.321.8851

Good luck!

This is why I won't use a cover that has the hinges; I just don't want to take the chance I would have this problem.

Same here.  I recently ordered an Oberon cover rather than Amazon which I would have been happy with if not for the hinges.

I have had a hinged cover since June with no problems but the cover I have (forget which one it was) is heavier than the Kindle and I tried to take the cover off--forget about it!  I would have to break the kindle to do that.

BTW, someone above supplied the kindle customer service number--Thank you.  I called regarding a problem with the screen on my K1 which is way out of warranty and after determining that it's a dead kindle, they offered me a $75 promotional discount toward any other amazon purchase and a prepaid label and envelope to recycle my k1!  Now that's customer service.
