Considering how may full-page, color diagrams are in med school textbooks, I wouldn't recommend reading them on the kindle.

Duokan makes PDFs actually readable on the Kindle.

6" reader (Kindle, Sony, Nook - doesn't matter) is a rather bad choice for such tasks. Most of medical/technical PDFs include scaned pictures and are quite unreadable on e-readers.
You can try DX, but IMO you should read 'em on a PC (Mac etc.) with a large-screen monitor.
Unfortunately, I can't suggest any affordable solution Sad Sorry

Duokan looks useful. I have despaired of reading PDFs. So thanks.

Duokan is worth trying.

It didn't solve the issues I have with more complicated PDFs, but it is an improvement over Amazon's OS and its handling of PDFs.

Plus installation of Duokan results in a dual boot Kindle,  You can ignore Duokan when you are not using it.  Pretty elegant.
