I thought it was making my eyes tired, too, but then my hubby pointed out how much more reading I was doing...  It helped when I bumped the font up to the next largest. |

I'm considering purchasing a used K1 as back up for my own k1. Should I do that? Or live in the sort of optimistic gadget cloud I normally live in, and just buy a new one when my current one wears out? I'm trying to figure out what a good price is for a back up unit when I haven't had any problems with my current one. Is it worth the effort?
I am not into cat juggling. 5 of their 6 ends are pointed.

Having lived with my K2 for a week, I am coming to believe it is a "lateral" improvement, as opposed to an "up" upgrade. There are some new features that I like, but they have also eliminated things that were on the K1 that I liked, too. My feeling is that this version has been created to test some new things (like the 5 way) and work out a few bugs. We are going to see some big changes with the K3. That will be the "upgrade." With that in mind, buying a backup K1 might not be a completely bad idea, if you are happy with it. That would give you something to hold you over until the K3 comes out (whenever that is) if your original unit should break and you don't want to be locked into getting a K2. Don't get me wrong -- I am not unhappy with my K2. It just didn't knock my socks off the way I was hoping it would. My K1 did knock my socks off the first time I turned it on. And I suspect anyone who gets a K2 who hasn't owned a K1 is also having the sock-knocking experience, which is good. L |

Leslie, you know I always support sock-knocking if there is sock-knocking to be had (did you know today was Dr. Seuss's birthday when you started this post? it seems entirely too coincidental.). But I really like the functionality of the k1, and wouldn't have included the new features of the k2 on any of my wishlists. Not that I'm knocking the features. But I don't use audiobooks b/c they put me to sleep. So I don't have high hopes for text-to-speech either. Hmm. I may watch to see if the prices drop further. I'm thinking half off might be my break even point. What? lol, I live in Hope. I receive my mail there, in fact. Nothing worthwhile is easy. You have spoken a truth, EV. Yea! I just bought my Kindle 1 on e-bay for $200, the person got it for Christmas, so I think it could have been bought in Oct? so hopefully a fair amount of warranty time left. They will ship tomorrow!! I hope my DH and Mom are impressed and want to buy one. It included a pink case that flips over the top, not sure if I'll like that or not. If all goes well I may buy myself an Oberon cover later on. I was so glad to see a BIN, last night I saw one and flipped to another area to look up one of the authors the seller mentioned, when I got back, a minute later, it was sold, so I snatched this one up fast! I am soooooo excited!! Oh, that is one of my favorite videos, I am so gullible, I thought it was for real until family just shook their heads sadly.

I sold my K1 for $175 including an M-Edge cover. Soon after that, a guy in the forum where I sold it said he was buying one from a local CraigsList user for $125! I think that seller didn't research what they're going for. I did and priced to be attractive - it was more than I would have initially guessed.

That's quite a range. Why would your eyes vary that much? I like 4, but I might go to 3 to avoid so many page turns...one of the main reasons I bought a Kindle was because I was having more and more trouble seeing small and light text from paperbacks as I've aged. |
