I sent my first K3 back because it has a small plastic shard lodged under the frame. It created a raised bump under the frame, pushing on the screen. I couldn't wipe it away; it just lodged in further.

I received a new one today, and, low and behold, there is a decent sized gap between the frame and screen. This gap is larger than what the plastic shard made!!!!! Dirt and dust can easily get into this! The frame is slightly bowed where the edge is not glued to the screen. And it was like this when I opened the box!! Are all Kindles like this??? I really want to send it back because the quality is so poor. I have many Apple products and I would NEVER consider keeping a computer or iPod that had an issue like this. It is such poor quality.

What do you guys think?? Am I expecting too much?? Should I send it back to Amazon? At this point I don't even want a Kindle when I keep getting crap like this.

I don't think you're expecting too much.  I don't have a similar problem with my Kindle.  The frame fits well around the screen, with no gaps.  I'm wondering if the very cold weather that's been affecting much of the U.S./Europe could be to blame?  Even if it isn't cold where you live, the Kindle may have been exposed to extreme temperatures en route.

I hope you get the problem resolved to your satisfaction.

I'm sure that customer service will send you yet another.  It should not have this issue.

May I suggest that you take a deep breath, pet a cat, or scream into an empty room first?  This isn't worth getting this upset about.  It is a minuscule bump in life.

I have noticed a slight gap, especially on the right side of my K3. Not enough that I worry about it, but enough to notice and make me think, "Hmm...there's one of the places they've cut corners to get the price lower than the K2, along with the keypad lettering that wears off." Wink

I had a total of 4 K3's. 3 replacements. I send the first one in because I had the seperating frame on the right so bad that every time I put my thumb there, I pressed it down, I could hear a sticky click and then after a few seconds it came back up.

The following replacements all had different issues as to why I had to send them back, but all 4 had frame separation to some degree. One had the space between the plastic and the metal sheet all around, the first like I said had the whole right side come up plastic and metal, the 3rd had it where the keyboard is and the one I am using now looks almost exactly like your pic, just mine is on the right side. I was done with replacements and kept it.

It used to bother me, but doesn't anymore and it hasn't gotten worse as far as I can tell.

All in all I wasn't to impressed with the overall quality of the built, but it love reading on it so I deal with it.

Since I had 4 with issues, I didn't see much hope that the next one wouldn't have something else wrong  Cheesy

It works fine otherwise and so far dirt hasn't been a lot of issue, and I have a lot of dust and cat hair around it.

Its up to you of course, if you can't stand it, call them and they will send another.

Atunah, sounds like you are just unlucky lol. When I first got the Kindle and held it the first thing I thought was that it was built sturdy and solid. I heard the Nook feels really cheap though, never tried it though so I can't say.

I do not care for the touch screen or start up time, but the nook seemed nicely made, the one I handled.

It does seem like quality has slipped on this last batch, as long as they keep replacing them I'm not going to let it bother me. They worked out the bugs on the other ones, they will work out the ones on this one.
