How does it work exactly? Do you send it to the person's email and they can add it to their account? If you and someone else is on the account will you both get the book? Thanks!  Grin

Send it to their email address and they click on "accept gift" (or something like that) and then it's available to them. If there are multiple kindles on one account, I'd assume that it would be available to anyone in their "archive" just like a regular purchased book...but I haven't tried that.

It just goes to the account and then from there you can select which device to put it on. Every Kindle on the account should have access to it though.

just so you know, it doesn't have to be the e-mail that they have set up as their amazon account, it'll link them in when they click.  Also, if they already own the book, there is an option to apply that amount as a gift card to the account (the recipient does that, not the sender).

It's a brand new feature -- Amazon only announced it last week! They created a good web page here that shows you exactly how it works...

To clarify:  the 'gifting' was announced a little over a month ago. . . .here's the link for that help page at Amazon:

The link Jon gave above is for the 'lending' option which was, indeed, announced just a few days ago. Smiley

For Christmas, my sister got her first Kindle, and we both exchanged gift books.  Her gift to me came through immediately, and easy.  Mine to her, the email never arrived, but one call to Kindle CS and they unstuck it and it worked just fine.

We have not tried lending yet.  I'm sure we will soon.  Mom's thinking of joining us in Kindle Kompany, so we will test the lending feature a lot then!  (though I still have a K1 and hope lending works on that too!)

YAY!  I already know someone who bought a trilogy and can lend it to me, when I'm done with my other Kindle gift book.

My sons bought me some ebooks for Christmas and I knew about them weeks ahead of time because of the notification emails.  I thought this wasn't a very good thing if you want to surprise the recipient.  Is there any way to send an ebook as a gift and delay delivery of the email?  Then a homemade 'certificate' can be presented at gift exchange time and the gift book notification email would arrive subsequently.

I know I could buy and send the book after I've given the homemade 'gift certificate' but with my memory I'm liable to forget to send it!  Cheesy
