I wonder if there will ever be a format that every ebook reader can read.

I have amazon kindle but as I understand it will read only certain formats. For example, it will not read nook format and vice versa.

I like to see ebook reader where you don't worry about format.

I am new and trying to learn about ebook readers.

It's not the format that is the problem. Pretty much every format can be converted.

It's the DRM.

iPad. If you can live with the backlit screen, it can read every format out there, DRM or not.

Thanks Mike. So iPad is the answer for format and surprisingly for DRM.

I don't have iPad because I am not too much into technology.  Most of time is spent in writing making people little bit healthier and happier. Wish everyone the very best in 2011.

Well, you do have to install multiple apps  to cover the various flavors of DRM, as there isn’t one that will do it all. as Pidgeon92 said, it it weren't for the DRM, any of the formats could be converted easily to the other.

Just keep reading as much as you can and you'll figure out DRM and different formats and all that.  It was all greek to me at first.

I thought you have to know the format to have the right e-reader. I wonder if kindle can read nook format! Thanks Patricia.

Thanks BTackitt.  That is why, I thought it is important to know ebook readers and format.  The purpose of this thread.

If formats are convertible, as many members have suggested, it is still a hassle. Wish you all the very best.
