I just leave mine in Sleep Mode. Other than draining the battery faster, is there any harm in leaving it in Sleep Mode when not using it?

It is preferable to let it sleep unless you won't be using it for a week or more.

I only turn mine off after I load a lot of books on it  Outside that, it just sleeps. |

According to what Kindle customer service told me; there is no need to turn your device off when not reading. It should just be put to sleep. The battery doesn't drain during sleep unless it's indexing or the WiFi/3G is on.

I don't think I have ever turned mine off all the way...maybe when I first got it just to figure out how but that would be about it.

My K1 purchased in 2008 that has been passed to Hubby has been turned off once, when I put a new battery in. My K3 has been turned off once or twice only because I was too stupid to figure out the new switch button I wasn't used too and I tried to restart and instead turned it off, I think  I just let it go to sleep. I honestly don't think about it all all. I just put it down and pick it up again whenever I go read. |

Just slide and hold until the screen turns off, as opposed to slide and release like you do to put it to sleep Takes about 5 seconds. And to OP - pretty much what everyone else said. I used to turn mine off every night before going to bed. Once I found out that it makes no difference re: the battery now I just put it to sleep. |

It actually uses MORE battery if you turn it off, because it has to do numerous boot-time activities that work the processor on each startup. Whereas when waking from sleep, all it has to do is refresh the screen.

I put mine to sleep every night by reading to it.  Not really. I do put mine to sleep each night. I don't think I have ever turned mine off and I have had it now for about 2 years and going strong! |

Usually just put it to sleep or let it go to sleep by itself. Reboot it occasionally if it seems to be misbehaving.

I used to turn it off when I first got my k2i, now I just let it sleep. Its quicker and easier then having to turn it on and wait for it to restart |

Sleep.
No reason to turn it of as it uses hardly any power in sleep mode. Plus it wakes up quickly while restarting from a power off is pretty slow.
