My Kindle Wi-Fi is much, much slower with software version 3.1. It seems like all functions, from exiting screensaver to connecting wireless, from page turns to just using menus, are bogged down.

My Kindle has no hacks or added screensaver graphics. The slow functions are independent of the material viewed.

I didn't notice any slow downs.  Maybe if you have a ton of books it will be slow for a bit while it's downloading all the page number files for books that have them?

But otherwise, mine seems as fast as ever with page turns etc.  Have had the update for a while since I installed in manually when it came out.

Try restarting the Kindle and see it that helps.

I restarted three times, this in addition to the unit's own restarts during the update process.

After the third restart it seems to be better. Speed has improved and it remembers the wireless network connection.

I spoke to Amazon's Kindle customer support and the nice lady told me an interesting tip: Avoid using the Kindle power switch to place the Kindle in sleep mode. Only use the switch to wake it up.

I'd never heard that before.

I've never heard of that before either. Interesting.

I installed 3.1 as a sneak peek a week or so ago, and even with screensaver hacks, I only noticed the delay today when I was trying to browse online while downloading new books. I guess it hasn't really been a problem otherwise.

Yeah, that's an odd tip.  I always put mine to sleep with the switch (have on all 3 models) and have never had any issues.

I'll continue to do so, as otherwise I often bump the K3 page turn buttons (or the case bumps them) when I close it and set it down.  So I always put it to sleep, then close the case and set it down.

I was having charging issues with a previous K3 (since replaced by CS), but one of the tips they told me was NOT to use the switch to put it to sleep, just let it go to sleep on it's own.  I thought it was strange, but apparently they are recommending that.

I put the update on a couple of weeks ago. . .I've not noticed it being slower.

However. . .I would note that once you do the update and then turn on wireless to get the 'number of pages' info, re-indexing might be required of some books.  That might slow things down temporarily.

I updated the 3.1 when it came out as an early "Preview" release - mine seems faster than it did with 3.0.3.

BTW, is the "official" 3.1 different from the "early preview?" Any reason to download the 3.1 offered now and update?

TIA

I don't think so. . .someone else commented that they'd downloaded the now 'official' release but couldn't update . . . they already had the 'pre-release' version.  This makes me think it's the same thing.

I noticed a slight lag when I installed the beta version of this update.  Nothing too drastic, but I could tell.  Your progress, highlights and notations are now linked a little different with this update.
