This is fluff, I know, but who would you rather spend a long weekend with?  I know Richard Jury, he of the gray eyes and apparently unlimited sex appeal, is the obvious choice, but I gotta tell you ... I'd grab Melrose in a minute.  Anyone else want to weigh in?

I'd love to spend a weekend with the whole crowd from Long Piddleton.  I think they'd be a riot.

After a weekend, though, I think they might get annoying. Roll Eyes Grin

I would love to be Richard Jury and (after chasing Auntie off to the USA by threatening her with prosecution for thievery of Lady Marjorie's jewels), spend the weekend with Melrose, my only rescue and true happiness in the world.
Or I'd like to be Melrose (being secretly in love with Richard from the very beginning of their friendship...), spending the weekend happily with my beloved friend.

Otherwise I'd love to be Martha the cook and pamper them with delicious breakfasts, lunches, high teas and dinners. (After sending Auntie to heaven by spicing her favourite fairy cakes with a little family secret...). *veg*

I have been to The Dirty Duck in Stratford-on-Avon.

And I've had Old Peculiar. . . .it's a very nice brew. Grin

Oooh, I am so jealous.  Martha Grimes is my favorite modern day mystery writer.  I never see anyone mention her around KB so I'm glad to see some other fans.  I was having breakfast yesterday with some friends and another friend and I were trying to explain to the group about Richard Jury, Melrose Plant and the whole Long Piddleton crew.  The cerebral side of me wants to spend the weekend with Richard Jury, but I know I would actually have much more fun with Melrose.  We could bone up on how to be dog trainers (I know, groaner of a pun), and then go undercover at a dog show where all the dogs would be mysteriously attracted to Melrose.  He would be constantly followed by a large pack of show dogs and their irate owners.  I would laugh the entire time.

Melrose is delightful, funnier than Jury, and often truly sweet.

But Jury's loneliness is at the root of all the novels and probably the most compelling thing about them--I think women would find it hard to resist.  Jury would become the project: "I'll be the first one to make him truly happy."
