Transfer Question

Greetings--  If I already have books on my PC e.g. downloaded from Gutenberg as a TXT file, how do I put them on my Kindle (for which I am awaiting delivery)? Can I put them on an SD card and then insert it into the Kindle, or do I have to have the SD card already inserted and then do the transfer via a USB cable?

Welcome, Zorro's uncle.

I think the latter is a safer bet. When you put the SD card in the Kindle for the first time, it formats it and creates the Kindle file folder structure. If your book is not in the right place, it won't show up. In fact, some folks have had problems getting their Kindle to recognize a "used" SD (one that already has files on it).

Transferring files via the USB is easy. Plug in, use windows explorer, copy & paste. Make sure files are in the documents folder for them to show up on the home page.

Also, if you already know your kindle's e-mail address you can e-mail the txt or doc files to that address.  Then when you turn it on for the first time they'll down load.  (Assumption here is that they are public domain with no type of DRM attached.)
