This evening I was at the gym and my kindle fell off the book holder while I was using the rowing machine, it only fell maybe two feet onto carpet but it tumbled and the lower hook on my Amazon case is bent (the lower hook came out of the kindle but the top was still in).  I picked it up but then my husband (who was right there) started messing with it, I'm not sure 100% what happened after that, he was trying to put it back in the case but I noticed that the screen went to some weird screen with a status bar in the middle and the kindle tree in the background.  After it did the "restart" type deal, I had lost my place in my book and it was on the home screen, all the books were as they were last night (before hours of organizing and reading), my 3g has been on for almost 24 hours so I would expect it to be in the same place where I was.

Is there something wrong with my kindle?  I think it's done this restart thing once before (and it hadn't been dropped at the time, I noticed it when I picked it up off the couch), I thought it was updating but noticed that the "Version #" on the bottom was the same as before.  Is this the reboot that everyone else complains about?

Thanks in advance for your help!  I'd hate to both CS if it's not something to worry about.

My guess? The bent hook on the case caused the Kindle to reboot. The hook might need further straightening. I don't like the idea of contacting Kindle CS for a user error, but if the case continues to be problematic, you can ask them about it.

Thanks Pidgeon!  My DH carefully bent it back, I'll continue to watch it and get a new case if need be.

I think that the tumble caused a power surge or loss and it did not have time to save your place in the book and just rebooted.  If the case seems to work now and the kindle seems okay, don't worry.

Oh, afterthought - is this the lighted or UNlighted case?  If unlighted, then the tumble might have scraped insulation (paint coating) off the hook(s) and you might have problems.  Just check it over the next few days.

It's an unlighted case but the hooks don't look stripped.  My DH has suggested that the tumble might have caused a temporary disconnect to the battery but I never saw it turn off.  I'll keep an eye on it.  If the fix ends up just replacing my case and not the kindle, I'll be a happy camper.  I know they've probably suffered worse falls and been fine but I'm pretty careful with my baby (I feel like an over anxious mother about it!

Thanks for all the advice!
