Luvmy4brats, if you continue with the Pern books, the Harper Hall trilogy (Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, Dragondrums) are YA books that introduce characters that play pretty big roles in The White Dragon. The White Dragon is still a good story without reading these but they definitely add to the richness of the story. Not available in ebook form though.
Sticking in my head to comment - The Harper Hall Trilogy is some of her best writing even if it's YA. I reread them on a regular basis and I also go through and click the I want to read this book on Kindle at least once a week. They were out of print for a while but have been released again in paperback in the last few years so hopefully we'll see an electronic version soon. And if you enjoy the character of Robinton, The Masterharper of Pern is available for Kindle and it's $5.99 at this time.

I also love Anne McCaffrey and the Harper Hall trilogy is still a big favorite of mine. I have recommended it to a few middle schoolers but haven't gotten anyone hooked yet.

Moyjoy, I finished The April Fools' Day Murder. I liked it! It kept me guessing, which was fun. I didn't figure out the murderer until near the end of the book, so that was nice. I also finished Wish List. It was good and funny, if a little odd. I agree that you don't have to read the rest of the series to appreciate this book, but I think it would be nice to have the back story on some of these people. I think I'm going to read the rest of the series beginning with the first book. Thanks for the recommendations! Hi! Yes! I'm finished the first two books in the series in teh past couple of weeks and it is great to know the background on the characters and it was nice to see that some of them were from the very first book. And they are as odd (in a good way) as Wish List. I'll defintely run through his whole series.

Oh, the movie. <shudders> I'm glad you're still willing to try the book--I thought the movie was horrible. Believe me, the books are a gazillion times better.
Hi!!! SURPRISE!!!! I ended up reading the Sedaris book. I don't even know how I ended up doing that. I had every intention of doing the Hitchhikers Guide. Can't even say what happened... But I LOOOOOVED Me Talk Pretty One Day. It was so good! The part about the food in NYC restaurants... PRICELESS!!! Thanks!

fadedrainbows, Here's my selection for you The Book Thief I hope you like it! I did really like it! I finished it on Tuesday, but have been too busy to post! (the last two weeks of a semester are always the busiest!) The book was a lot deeper than I thought, and I definitely cried. I loved the narrator, such an interesting style! Thanks for the recommendation! (And sorry if I was difficult to choose for!)

Wasn't it wonderful? Some people are hesitant to read it because many bookstores classify it as young adult. I just tell them to trust me and read it. This book is the one that piqued my interest in WWII and since reading it, I've been reading books set in different areas of the world both during and after the war.

MissStar, I finished Fatal Infatuation. I am not sure if I want to continue to the next trilogy or not though. I enjoyed the book but I was also annoyed by it, it was just a bit rough. By that, I mean I thought that the writing was not as developed as it could have been. This felt like a novice author to me, not sure if she is or not. In any event, I did like it and am glad you recommended it to me.

It is worth note though, that it does also make a good book for a young adult. I was probably about 13 when I was given a copy of the book, and it was one that did work well for someone that age.

I'm glad you liked it. Sorry that the writing annoyed you...it's been a while since I read it, and I tend to be pretty forgiving of writing style, especially by new authors (which I think she is).

Hi TJsmentana, I decided to read Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah, partly due to not wanting to wait to find out what happened after the sample ended. (I decided before even reading the other two samples.) You were right about the book having spots that brought tears to my eyes. I enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick read because I did not want to put it down. .. Thanks for the suggestions! My sister saw Angel Falls in the Archive, read it, and then suggested it to our mom. She read it and enjoyed it. She has needed good books to read lately. Thank you again!
