<snip>

KingAl, I finished A Journey to the Centre of the Earth last night.  I'm shocked and amazed that I actually enjoyed a classic... I absolutely loved it!  Thank you so much for this (and the other) suggestion.  This has been a very successful book club month for me!

Wow, you're just too fast a reader! If you want something else to read, you should try some of Jules Vernes' other works (the only other one I have read so far is Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, which I thought is at least as good as Journey to the Center of the Earth.)

vg, I'll pick cruise Confidential, as I have already read the entire Hunger Games trilogy. It sounds fascinating. Thanks!

I'm about 40% done. It is hilarious. vg, you're right in that nobody who reads this will ever look at cruises the same way again!

Annalog, I just wanted you to know, I started reading Dragonflight last night and I've been sucked in. I'm at 28% now and unless something drastically awful happens, I feel like I'm going to love this book. It's been awhile since I've read "dragon" books.  Of course, this means that this isn't so much a stretch from my genre... I just had to remember I liked it!

I had every intention of reading her book Black Horses for the King this month instead.

TJsmetana, I have sent samples of all three books (Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah, Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning, and Cat on the Edge by Shirley Rousseau Murphy) to my Kindle. and will look at them to make a decision as soon as I identify my choices for luvmy4brats.
Hi TJsmentana, I decided to read Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah, partly due to not wanting to wait to find out what happened after the sample ended. (I decided before even reading the other two samples.) Wink You were right about the book having spots that brought tears to my eyes. I enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick read because I did not want to put it down. Grin

I have DH looking to see if the other two books you recommended are available at the library either in print or audio.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I am glad you are enjoying the book. I did not mean to prevent you from reading another book by her. Of course, you could always read both! Grin

I have not yet read Black Horses for the King, but I will now need to put it on my list of books to be read!

I am glad you liked it.  She has quickly become one of my favorite non-fantasy writers.

Finished: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  I really enjoyed the first half of the book and would have given it 4.00 stars, maybe 4.25  if it had ended there.  The talk of books, the love of reading,  the eccentric British characters, and the German occupation of the islands were excellent.  But then there was the second half and it all fell apart.  The absolute goodness of one character, her daughter, and the rather too sweet romance subplot spoiled the book.  2.00 stars for the second part.  True to the first half, I went to now read Charles Lamb.

I finished Break In and I'm really surprised how much I enjoyed it.  The story is set in the world of horseracing - of which I have no interest - and its set among the old school British upper crust - of which I also have no interest.  And I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book.  It was fun and paced well.  I did have to keep reminding myself it took place in the 1980's and not the 1920's, but I think that's a throwback to the horseracing/upper crust thing ....

Thank you for the recommendation - ya done good.

All right. A success! Glad you enjoyed the book. My local library just got in a bunch of Dick Francis ebooks. I may have to go back and reread that one. It's been a while.

I just finished How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming. This book was definitely a winner. Some of the descriptions were hilarious, it was well written, it had enough description to not leave you behind, but not enough that when you have been paying attention that you were bored. There were a parts that I showed to my boyfriend, like the kitty litter, that he just couldn't stop laughing at.

It is the best description of why Pluto is no longer a planet that I've seen, while still being entertaining. Definitely worth reading.

Yay!  I'm so glad you're enjoying it!  I've read it several times - the second read, you end up catching so much more of the little details of the story than the first time through.  We read it for a book club and didn't have much to discuss, since we all loved it!  And how cool would it be to find your own Cemetery of Forgotten Books??  I can't even imagine.

I finished The Shadow of the Wind last night. A very good book. I had guessed that Lain Coubert was actually Julian, but there's still one outstanding question I don't remember an answer to: Who is Fermin, really?

Thanks for the recommendation!

I just finished reading my book for March, House of Suns. I posted a quick review in last month's thread. I'm headed to the beach this weekend so I'll be reading The Red Tent on the trip.

Tuttle, I'm glad you liked How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming.  I'm not a math/science person but even I could understand this book.  It's still in my top two books for this year.

Luvmy4brats,
if you continue with the Pern books, the Harper Hall trilogy (Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, Dragondrums) are YA books that introduce characters that play pretty big roles in The White Dragon.  The White Dragon is still a good story without reading these but they definitely add to the richness of the story.  Not available in ebook form though.

RiddleMeThis I just started Dark Lover and am enjoying it so far. The big explosion just happened in the beginning. I'm hoping to get a lot farther along in it tonight.
