I can't believe it took me three months to find the time to finish ElfHunter, but last night I turned the last page. I HATE it when life gets in the way of a good book! I didn't remember the ending at all...well, the final ending anyway. I remembered the big fight, I remembered Gorgon's eventual loss of dexterity (  ) and I remember them not finding him, but I didn't remember Gaelen's situation at the end of the book. Must be why I jumped straight into Fire Heart last time. The perfect cliff-hanger. Thank you, Archer, for the content. Even reading it a second time there were passages where I laughed, where I cried and where I couldn't put the book down. It's an amazing book. |

You have made me happy today, Brew. A suggestion has been made that I re-write the trilogy with a more linear plot, fewer characters, single POV...you know, like a modern fantasy. I think I'll just keep it pretty much as is, thanks. Do you have an ARC of Outcaste yet? I'm having a few printed up.  |

OK, Geoff. I didn't like the idea, either.
I wrote the books the way I did because that's how I wanted to tell the story. There are readers who love them for what they are.
I have noticed my own style evolving and streamlining over the several years this has taken, Outcaste being the latest example, but the basic method is still there. I still prefer a non-linear plot, and I still enjoy POV-switching.
As they say, Pobody's Nerfect!

You can't change something for the better when it's already the best. Writing a totally different story that's more linear would be a possibility, but I think what many of your readers like "is" your style (myself included). I've been through the trilogy and have also loved the Outcaste ARC. I haven't read the story that follows Outcaste though, in case you're looking for editing help or have an AARC. Thanx again! |

I'll offer up a humble opinion here as well -- don't touch a thing -- them thar books be fantastically good just as they are -- about the ONLY improvement I would even think to offer up would be for you to offer up MORE of them One of these days I'll take a shot at rereading them all --- perhaps this winter when I can just curl up in front of the fire with a good book and a nice glass of the grape and immerse myself! |

Ok, time to move forward! I just finished a long end of a series (Earth Children Series) and a quickie romance (pun intended )...time to read something I know I like again. There's something I have been wondering. The story of Orogond tells that his parents tried to escape the plague right? And Orogond was an infant then. Another place I read that the plague ended fifty years before, which would mean that Orogond can count at least fifty years at the time of Elfhunter, yet it says he is in the prime of his young manhood. While fifty is not Old today, can it be called young manhood? Or is the years different in Alterra and maybe men lived longer?
I find myself wishing to be in Alterra as I read, I see the trees and almost taste the food ^^

Ah, Winter...men live a long time in Alterra. 150 years is not uncommon. Rogond is therefore about a third of the way through his life-span, which in a world where people live to be...say, eighty years old, is about 27. That's prime age in our world. Fifty in our world is over half the typical lifespan. Rogond's just gettin' warmed up! :-) (And he can warm up MY tent any time he wants to! I love the new illustrations of him.) I'm going to Alterra next weekend! Gonna spend the whole three days there. Maybe I'll see you guys there. |

Oh my! The fate of Galador tugs at my heart right now. It is a rather emotional day in itself and I can feel his pain since it seems I share a fate similar yet not. It's like I feel eveything he does. In a good way though. I have had a week of "save the world, be a superwoman-days" and today I kind of crashed a little bit. I tend to do this, not quite able to balance my energy and will to help friends. I only did the cover art because I felt bad for him...his previous cover was a blurry image of his own thumb over the camera lens.  I can't vouch for the story, as I haven't read it! I'd say if the sample grabs you, why not? |
