I am sure this has been said a million times but.....

The K3 with ATT Whispernet just flat out sucks in comparison to the K2 with Sprint Whispernet in my area! The coverage and speed of the K3 makes it a complete dog compared to the K2. We live in the Metro-Detroit area and the K2 would get great coverage just about anywhere and would download at very good speeds. I am talking in basements, commercial buildings, all parts of the area! We have never had any coverage issues with the K2. In contrast, the K3 is SO bad that there were situations in the Metro area where there was NO AT&T coverage! Are you kidding me? Not to mention, overall downloads are just so much slower than on the K2.

So, is the coverage for the Kindle 3 limited vs. coverage for their regular AT&T data customers? Am I missing something here?

If not, then AT&T is downright awful for what they charge for service. I would hate to think that iPhone users are paying all that money for such crappy service? The data coverage does not appear to be any better than my cheap $10/month unlimited web2go 3G T-Mobile service. Maybe cell phones are different?

Well, I know the Kindle is not a cell phone nor as fast but I would have never thought the service would be this bad in my area. I have heard many complain about Sprint's service in my area but....as far as Kindles go.....Sprint is MUCH better than AT&T in Metro-Detroit. Thank God there's WiFi in many areas...even still...the K3 seems slower than the K2.

OK, my rant is over....just had to get that out.

AT&T has poor coverage in many areas for both 3G and digital phone coverage.

This is why it entered into a deal to buy T-Mobile.  If this goes through it will be the equivalent of AT&T building five years worth of cell towers, as well as opening band infrastructure.

Another reason I wet wifi only.  Att is weak in my house... I get edge network at best, thankfully my iPhone is Verizon, full bars on 3G.
