Anthony Neil Smith's acclaimed 2008 crime novel YELLOW MEDICINE is now available for Kindle and Nook! Only 99 cents for the story of Billy Lafitte, a bad cop gone worse when his shenanigans during Hurricane Katrina get him bounced off the police force down South, and his ex-brother-in-law gives him a second chance in rural Minnesota. He's up to his old tricks--protecting meth dealers for a cut, intimidating witnesses, coercing the ladies, drinking too much--when some wannabe terrorists move in on the meth trade to help fund their missions. So it's either cover his own *ss or defend his new territory and the people he cares about. You'll never believe how far he will go.

BUT WAIT! I want you all to pick it up, sure. But help me find some new readers, and tell them we're aiming for MAY 1st, 2PM EST, to push this thing to the top of the bestseller lists. The only way to find new readers is for them to know the book exists, and to get that done, this thing needs some sales.

Tell your friends, family, enemies, coworkers, circus performers, cowboys, yoga teachers, and that stripper you have no chance with (even though you tell yourself you do). MAY DAY. Help put a great crime novel on top of the world.

Welcome to KindleBoards, Anthony, and congratulations on your book!

(If you've gotten this welcome before, it's just as a matter of housekeeping. We like to put a copy of the "welcome letter" in each book thread.  It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, it just helps us know that you know the rules.)

A brief recap of our rules follows:

--We invite you to use your book cover as your avatar and have links to your book and website in your signature. Instructions are posted here

--Please bookmark this thread (using your browser's bookmark/favorite function) so you can update it as we ask that authors have only one thread per book and add to it when there is more information.  You may start a separate thread for each book (or you may have one thread per series of books, or one thread for all of your books, it's your choice).

--While you may respond to member posts to your thread at any time, you may only bump your thread (back-to-back posts by you) once every seven days.  Once you've responded to a member, that resets the clock to zero and you must wait seven days to post, unless another member posts before then.

--We ask that Amazon reviews not be repeated here as they are easy to find at your book link.  Also, full reviews from other sites should not be posted here, but you may post a short blurb and a link to the full review instead.

--Although self-promotion is limited to the Book Bazaar, our most successful authors have found the best way to promote their books is to be as active throughout KindleBoards as time allows.  This is your target audience--book lovers with Kindles!  Please note that putting link information in the body of your posts constitutes self promotion; please leave your links for your profile signature that will automatically appear on each post.  For information on more ways to promote here on KindleBoards, be sure to check out this thread:
Authors: KindleBoards Tips & FAQ.

All this, and more, is included in our Forum Decorum.  Be sure to check it from time to time for the current guidelines and rules.

Oh, and one more thing:  be sure to check out the index threads at the top of the Book Bazaar. . . .there are details there about how you can be listed so that our readers can find you.

Thanks for being part of KindleBoards!  Feel free to send us a PM if you have any questions.

Thanks to yesterday's May Day event for YELLOW MEDICINE, it's currently #41 on Kindle's hard-boiled ebooks list. And we can keep it moving up.

You'll also find 2 5-star reviews from acclaimed crime novelists Roger Smith (Mixed Blood and Wake Up Dead) and J. D. Rhoades (Lawyers, Guns, & Money and The Devil's Right Hand and others). Wow.

If you like a good, dark cop thriller, join the pulpsters in buying YELLOW MEDICINE.

I had a return journey on the train this weekend Dunbar to London.

What better way to make 8 hours of transportation fly than to tuck in to Yellow Medicine.

If Doc Noir were an airplane, he'd be a Spitfire, never still, lots of pace, flying bullets, great at aerobatics and has definitely seen some action.

It was a great trip.

I tried this yesterday on my blog and it had a great response, so I'm going to try it here this morning for Kindleboard readers. It's based on the idea of the "pop-up", which we see with restaurants and booksellers these days--moving into a vacant spot for hours, days, weeks, and opening a business, then packing it in and starting over somewhere else. Exciting, spontaneous, fun.

So I'm going to try "pop-up" offers throughout the coming months. Little extras for new readers if you can grab it while it's hot before it goes away again.

And for you guys today, that is my "Lafitte For Life" Club. Kind of like a customer loyalty card for readers of my Billy Lafitte crime novels. If a Kindleboard member buys my novel Yellow Medicine for Kindle today between 8:30AM and 11:30AM Central Time, and you send me the receipt at a DOT neil DOT smith AT gmail DOT com, you will become a member of the Lafitte For Life Club and receive:

> The second Lafitte novel, Hogdoggin', as a Kindle book
> The third (as yet unfinished) Lafitte novel right before it goes on sale later this year
> Signed print copies (originally from Bleak House Books) of both Yellow Medicine and Hogdoggin' in either hardcover or paperback
> *Any* future Lafitte novels, stories, or novellas before they go on sale.

Interested? Thousands of readers are hooked on the Lafitte novels, but only the lucky few can join the club and get freebies for life. Check it out. Time's a wastin':

I've decided to toss my novel Yellow Medicine into the Kindle Exclusive pool for a few months, see how it works out. And to launch that, it will be FREE on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4 & 5. I'm aiming this for the Top 100, folks, because I want a lot of new readers for it, the first of the Billy Lafitte series, especially because I'm working on a new Lafitte for later this year.

Check it out: http://amzn.to/xdVDbj

17 5-star reviews! 5 4-stars! Not to mention the great reviews it got from Publisher's Weekly and Booklist when it hit the print shelves back in '08.

Thanks much, and I would love some help spreading the word out there!

I read this book when it came out in paperback, and I'd say it's DEFINITELY worth 99 cents.  Possibly even $2.99!  I'd say that even if there wasn't a character named "Graham" in there.  Check it out, it's a good book.
