Chick Lit. I would prefer an indie or something less expensive, if possible. | | | drenfrow | vg | I'll try anything - And I'm loving the 'just give me one book and I'm good to go' way I've been playing the last few months.. | as long as it doesn't have gratuitous graphic sex and/or violence. | | | Emily King | Tjsmetana | fantasy, paranormal,SciFi, My Goodreads | No Deal Breakers | | | fadedrainbows | akagriff | Open to anything that is not a deal breaker | vampires, or other dark creatures who suck blood or eat body parts. kaotickitten, I have two choices for you. The first is a set of short stories with an overall story arc: A Land of Ash by David Dalglish, etc. This is apocalyptic fiction in which the Yellowstone Caldera has erupted. Its full of resignation, death, insanity, hopelessness and hope. Your second choice is Raising Jake by Charlie Carillo. This is a mid-life coming of age story about a man, his teenage son and the past he thought he left behind.

Hi KingAl, Here are my two selections for you: There is a love story woven into this but it is not a romance so I hope you might like this. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen And this is one of my favorite Pat Conroy novels. Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy I hope one of these suits you.

MissStar - Here are my two choices for you: I have suggested this one before, but that is because I consider it an amazing book - a bit disturbing at first, but worth the effort. (I just noticed the price has gone up. Sorry about that.) My second suggestion is a book that I have read very recently and enjoyed. If one of these does not capture your interest, let me know and I will try again. On a side note - VG, Unbroken is a great book. I definitely recommend it. (In fact it was going to be one of my suggestions, but Drenfrow posted first.)

Margaret, here are my selections for you. I hope you find something you like. If you don't find one of these to your interest, let me know and I will try again. The first selection is the first book in the Forever Trilogy by Jude Deveraux called Forever. The second selection is the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich starting with the first book One for the Money. The last selection is the wonderful Drake Sisters series from Christine Feehan about seven magical sisters called Magic in the Wind.

luvmy4brats, Having looked through your goodreads, I decided on Nation for this month's selection. Pratchett has been recommended a noticeable amount in the Quasi-Official Reading Game, but always as discworld. While its a YA book, I highly enjoyed Nation when I read it earlier this year, and it seemed a good fit with what you've read.

Tjsmetana, I just read these 2 within the last few weeks and LOVED them! 2 drastically different books, too. First, Discovery of Witches - this one is probably more in your comfort zone (and I dislike the fact that it's over $10). I got it from the library and loved it so much after the first chapter, I bought it on kindle. Second pick, Game of Thrones - I knew I wanted to watch the show and got this one from the library. Hubby took it before I could get it, so I had to wait. When I did get it, again, I got into the first few chapter and enjoyed it enough to buy it. There's a LOT of character development in the beginning and a ton of names to get through, but it's such a fantastic book! Let me know if you'd like different choices! Emily

It'll be a bit before I get to it this month. I have 2-3 books ahead of it.

I think I will start with Discovery of Witches and then if time allows I will read Game of Thrones also. I will order Discovery on Wednesday once hubby gets paid. Thanks for the selections. I am looking forward to reading them both.

Hi MoyJoy: I just finished Icarus Rising (fantasy), and thought it was fantastic Second choice is Flowers for Algernon. I read it in junior high, but didn't get around to reading it again until last month. Let me know if neither book works for you.

TJsmetana, thank you for the great choices! I have read all of the Stephanie Plum series (I did not realize that I had not added them to Goodreads), but I am interested in both of the others. I will start with Magic in the Wind and move on to Forever if time permits.

I just discovered Stephanie Plum last month and I loved the way the book was written. I was able to pick up books 2, 3, and 4 this past week and am really looking forward to reading them.

fadedrainbows, I checked your Goodreads and a book I liked a lot is on your to-read shelf. Let's move it to your read shelf, shall we? Here is my recommendation for you: If you're not ready to move that one just let me know and I'll come up with something else!

SoI also chose Rasing Jake to be the offical one due to having never heard of it and it well was a one click since this is to push me out of my comfort zone.
