The UPS box was waiting outside my door. The edge of the box was a bit banged up, which caused me to worry for a minute, but then I opened it up and saw how well protected everything was. The box the actual Kindle comes in is GORGEOUS! Man, what a work of art. I expected a cool box from some of the comments I read here, but nothing prepared me for how awesome it was. So, of course, I eagerly unwrapped my Kindle, plugged it in, and turned it on. Nothing... Uh oh! I was worried for a second, but after a minute, it thankfully booted up. *Whew* (Any idea why it takes so long initially?) It immediately knew my name and had recommendations based on my tastes. Amazing! The two free books I ordered and the one sample were sitting there waiting for me. And the screen: WOW! I am in love. Letting it charge up now... I know I can use it while it's charging, but I hate being tied up to a cord. Sorry for this completely unnecessary post, but I just HAD to share in my excitement!

Welcome, CS! I have two of the boxes here and can't bring myself to throw them out recycle them. One of the hidden bonuses of Kindle ownership is access to the great Kindle community here- lots of fun and fellowship.

I am in LOVE. I spent several hours last night reading a variety of things. I'm AMAZED by the screen. It does not look electronic AT ALL. As you can see from my signature, I already have several books. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to hold it when I'm lying back in bed. Any suggestions?

It'll be worth the wait! I am so addicted to it already. Thank God for free stuff. I somehow convinced myself to download MaidenFlight just because it was free, but feedbooks.com is great for actual literary masterpieces (at the best price possible: FREE!). I tried it tonight by DLing Great Expectations. I will probably grab Dracula, Frankenstein, The Time Machine, and the War of the Worlds - all classics I've never read - from Feedbook in the coming days.

Gertie K's cover folds over the top, so I can put both hands flat against her back and rest her against my knee. Congrats on your new family member! I know you have great times ahead of you.

Good to hear you're enjoying it! Feedbooks absolutely rocks. I love being able to browse the file and just click to dowload straight to the Kindle.
I found one-handed reading with the original cover fairly easy if you fold the cover back, and put the kindle in the crook between your thumb and forefinger, and use your thumb to turn pages. However, with my original cover, my Kindle would fall out if I were reading with it facing Kindle-down.

Sure, why not... LOL. Anyway, thanks to everyone for their tips on how to hold the Kindle with the cover. However, I like holding it nakedly. Any advice for that?

But how does a skin help me hold a naked Kindle better? I was more thinking it will keep it cleaner, since your hands will be on more of it than when it is in a cover. L
