Back before Christmas, my wife's K1 screen cracked. We called Kindle Support and they gave us a credit for her old Kindle for upgrading to the K3 (Merry X-Mas to her!).

So, my K1's control wheel has been acting up (seems like I have to scroll 20x just to get the cursor to move one line, and sometimes it skips, so I have to scroll down 10x to get back down a line). It's time to retire it and move up to a K3. I'm just curious if Amazon is still doing the upgrade credit. Has anyone been given a credit recently?

I'll be upgrading either way, just thought I might try for the added discount first. Smiley

You'll just have to ask.  It's not an advertised thing. . .just something they've been reported doing -- and which you have first hand experience with -- in the interests of customer satisfaction.

I'm guessing if it's just a "I want a new one, can I have a discount" the answer might be "no".  But if it's "My K1 scroll wheel is acting weird and I can't select things properly so I can't really use it any more", then maybe the answer would be "yes". Smiley

FWIW, my K1 exhibits the same behavior. . . .I've tried spraying with compressed air while twirling the wheel but it doesn't really help. . . . but so far it's been but a minor annoyance as it's my back up reader anyway.

I heard people mention that spraying the compressed air from inside works sometimes.  I've never looked at that part of my K1 when the cover's been of (since I'm just resetting), so it could be complete nonsense.  It seems logical, though, that it could be gunk in the scroll wheel, like the old mechanical mouses, where you had to remove the ball, and clean it, when the mouse got flaky.

Both of our K1's scroll wheels are still fine, knock on wood!

I believe Ann in Arlington is probably right. Any discounts for buying a new Kindle would depend on why you need a new Kindle.
