Though I lack the skills to do flash fiction, I have a suggestion. Someone should write something about pink snowbunnies from hell and ninja monkeys. No one can deny the sheer epicness of such an idea.

I think my heart stopped for a moment over the sheer epicness.

Add like 80 more words and you're there Smiley.

If you need any help with putting it together, let me know.  I've done plenty of anthologies over the years so I can help you sort out the particulars that you probably aren't thinking abour right now as the subject is too funny.

Will do, and thanks.  I admit to this not being the most carefully planned idea ever Wink.

I could never do that. It just wouldn't come out well. I have trouble fathoming a work so short.

I never even heard of flash fiction until a few days ago.

I've never written any flash fiction.  It'll be an experience.

Hmm... what are the rules that I need to follow?

I think I can pull it off if I have some sort of guidelines.

it has to be between 100 and 1000 words.

you have to have a pink bunny go to hell in it.

and you have to give me chocolate....

Word length isn't what I'm needing to know, exactly. I've never read a flash fiction, so I don't know if they conclude normally or end abruptly.

there's no ending rule.  it's length that defines flash fiction, not anything else.  as long as you follow the length rule, you can submit anything to modwitch for judging.

Hmm... I'm not going to try. After thinking about it, I've realized that there's no way I could write something so short. Plus, I'm supposed to be working on my novel.

The writer side of my brain is entirely filled with the sequel to Compis right now, so I'm out for contributing material (although, I'd love to do something like this in the future).

However, the reader side of my brain would love to help you choose submissions if you get a ton of them.  Sounds like a nice change from angsty teen girls.  (I think I'm getting sick of YA fiction, finally. hahaha)

What about including poetry in it?  Not solely as a poetry anthology, but perhaps something writers concerned about length (Ryne, I'm looking at you) could do?

Oh, and I can barely string a sentence together that's shorter than a thousand words, so I completely get where you're coming from there.

I think what we really need to do is start randomly tweeting and posting on facebook "pink snowbunnies will ski in hell" just to build an air of mystery around the project.  Grin

Flash fiction is a snapshot -- one thing happens.  For the longer ones, it's a scene.  The shorter ones, it literally is ONE thing.

Or think of it like a joke: set up and punchline.

There's an ultra-shorts newsletter called Flashshot.  Here is a link to their most recent ten stories.  (These are Microficiton -- I think they have to be UNDER 100 words.)

Or if you want to see my samples, I do a lot of flash fiction for my "Story Sundays"

LOL. Debora, I love your style and I so want to write something for this. I've never written any flash fiction, but I will give it a go tomorrow. It remains to be seen if I can write something outright funny. My stuff is generally either nonfiction or science fiction. Funny science fiction.... Now that has possibilities that should come to fruition before pink snowbunnies ski in hell.

Wow, TJ & SE, you guys are fast!!

@TL - sure, I'll take poetry.  Anyone who can work that line in a poem deserves serious props!

@Julie - 'kay.  You and Arkali are hereby in charge of building the #pinksnowbunniesinhell following.

@Ripley - why can't sci-fi be funny? It's a few hundred words - I know this length is an experiment for a lot of us, but give it a try.  You'd probably need to minimize world building  Cheesy.

So, question.  I asked, and KDP will only let us stick 10 contributors on the book.  We're likely to have more than 10 stories.  My thought was to ask the judges to pick their 10 faves, and those authors would go up on the contributor list, and then a full list of contributors would go in the blurb??

Well, I decided to do it. It took a bit of research into flash fiction, and I think I made a decent one. If it gets used, I wouldn't mind not being listed as a contributor on the contributor list, so long as I was listed in the blurb or in the actual book.

3 submissions already.  'Kay, this is fun.

Ryne, glad you took a shot at it.  We'll figure something out for the contributors - I'm fine with drawing names out of a hat, honestly.  I don't think this needs to be hard, so easy suggestions/preferences are welcome.

I am too, now. I've always wanted to write ninja monkeys, and I finally got the chance.

As for the contributors... well, you could just list yourself as the editor, which is generally what is done for someone who sets up an anthology like this. Then, you could set up a contributor page in the frontmatter of the book. Or, you could just put the names in alphabetical order and list the first ten.
