Someone commented on my blog recently that they thought it was possible to post a review to Amazon directly from the Kindle. I've had a look through my Kindle menu and can't see the option. I tried to search the forums here, but trying to find a topic with the words Kindle and Review throws up a lot of results, so apologies of this has been asked before.
Anyone know anything about this?

It is not on a Kindle menu but is an option from the Kindle Store accessed from the Kindle. One way to post a book review from the Kindle: On a Home page, go to the book listing and push the 5-way controller to the right. This brings up a list of options for the book.
Select Book Description which goes to the Amazon Kindle store entry for that book. Wireless (WiFi or 3G) needs to be on.
On the book page, go to the Customer Reviews link.
At the top of the Customer Reviews page there should be two links. The first is "Write a Review" and the second is "Editorial Reviews".
Select the Write a Review link. this will bring up a page where you can select 1 to 5 stars, enter a review title and enter a review. At the bottom of the page is a Submit button.

I find it rather irritating that I'm prompted to post a mini-review (or rating) to Facebook when I finish a book on the Kindle, but there isn't a 'post a review in the Kindle store' option. Mind you, the FB option creates some interesting discussions at times. :-)

I don't mind the FB thing . . . for me, it's just sharing with my friends that I read the book. (I don't really have any FB friends who I've not met IRL.) I like that I can rate it and have that rating saved in my "your collection" list right away. Before, I'd forget to do that. I usually don't write much because there isn't enough room -- it's limited to 'tweet' length -- so if I really want to say something I just go to FB separately and comment on my own post. And, of course, if I don't care to share about that particular book, I can skip it. I've never written reviews anyway, on Amazon. It has never made sense to me that people who don't know me might care what I think. Heck, a lot of the people who do know me don't much care. But I do see where a way to post the review directly after reading could be an advantage for those who do. Although, there's lots of discussion about how 'well written' the reviews are -- or aren't Seems like writing it on the Kindle would make posting a respectable looking review even harder.

The statements above are why I think that Amazon decided to keep the Amazon book review posting as a web page accessed from the Kindle instead of as a built-in Kindle menu option. In addition, it means that those of us who have Facebook/Twitter option turned off can still post Amazon book reviews from our Kindle. Since I have never enabled the social networking on my Kindle, I did not know that the Kindle would prompt me to post a review on my Facebook page.

My Kindle hasn't been set up for FB or Twitter either, but I'm glad that I can go straight from a book to the review page. Very useful.

Since I have never enabled the social networking on my Kindle, I did not know that the Kindle would prompt me to post a review on my Facebook page. Well, it doesn't really prompt you to review. But when you get to the end you have the option to share via twitter or FB. Most of the post is pre-set with the book title and author. If you put a rating that will be included too. Depending on the length of all that, you might not have many characters left to say much. Though can edit the default stuff if you want. When you share it it appends a link to the book page at Amazon with a cover image. I thought even if you didn't have FB/twit sharing enabled it would let you rate it at the end. . . . .which rating shows up in "your collection" which I find very helpful.

I don't see that at the end of my books. It could be because I have a K2 and not a K3. Or it could be book specific. Or it could be that I am missing another setting.

It might be only on the K3. When you go to the settings menu (from the home page) do you have a "Social Networks" option? On the K3 it's on the 2nd page. You can link to your FB page or twitter account. I think you only get the option to share if you've linked to one or the other. Not sure about the option to rate the book. . . .it comes up at the very end of the book file. . . .after all the end matter, etc. It's definitely NOT book specific.

On the K2 Settings menu, the option to manage Social Networks is on the first page. I have this deliberately turned off. It could be that the option to rate the book at the end of the book is only available when Social Networks is enabled. I will check that another time. However there is currently nothing at the very end of the book files on my Kindle. I just checked again with a new book recently purchased from Amazon and another recently updated by Amazon. ( The Chicken Chronicles: Sitting with the angels who have returned with my memories by Alice Walker and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien)

Very good information.
The "facebook/twit" sharing line made me snicker, though...I can think of some twits I've shared things with..

I enabled the connection with my Facebook account, synced my Kindle, and I still did not have the option to rate or review for FB at the end of a book. I suspect that is not enabled for the K2.
Then I turned off the social networking on my account so DH and my mom will not be confused by the change.

Hmmmm. . . .maybe not. I'm trying to remember when I first heard about the feature -- I thought it was when the latest K2 update came out, but I had a K1 then so I wouldn't have paid close attention to what exactly was available in a K2 update. And it's possible they tweaked it some with the K3 since it theoretically has a better browser.

I will be at my Mom's tomorrow night. She has a K3 so I will try to remember to check on her Kindle. I also need to check to see if it has gotten the 3.1 update. Wait, I just looked to see what was in the 3.1 update. It says: Before You Go ... -- When you reach the end of the book, you can immediately rate the book, share a message about the book with your social network, get personalized recommendations for what to read next, and see more books by the same author. It looks to see a feature of the K3. EDIT: Also: You can rate a book even if you haven't linked your Amazon.com account to your social media accounts.

Well, geez, Anna, if you're gonna go and read the documentation you'll spoil all the fun! But it does seem to settle the question, doesn't it.

I had been planning on reading the K3 docs soon so I would know the differences between my K2 and Mom's K3. I already read the doc for DH's DX. I printed out the update instructions for the K3 so I guess that will spoil any fun during the upgrade.
