Are there any other independent writers who make promos of their books?  I just recently began to do just that and I want to share them with you here.
Please let me know what you think and post yours here too:

Pretty good.  I didn't see anything wrong with either of them.  I make my own book trailers as well. There are so many good editing tools out there that i don't really see the need to hire someone else to do it.

I think yours are both good.

I also like the one below you with actual people. You should make a full length movie

Do these things do any good? I ask because I consider them to be commercials and I don't go out of my way to watch commercials.

I do my own trailers... they're fun.  Can't say they sell books but it's there for someone to see... I have it on the page for my books on my site, etc.

The one for my knitting book has been very, very good - it's driven lots of traffic my way. I'm not sure about the one for the novel though I've gotten some nice emails as a result of it.

Well...mine are nonfiction so I don't do vids specific to individual books. Instead I've a whole series promo-ing myself/brand as an expert. Here's the latest two:

I did a few a couple years ago. Then I ran out of ideas. Here's the one that probably broke my brain:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9hNOG4-DJ8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9hNOG4-DJ8</a>

I have kind of a germ of a notion for one of my latest releases, but it's not a vid. It's a series of comic strips full of meta and custom crocheted figurines of each character, so I am not sure they're a good use of my limited time Smiley

I did my own with my iPhone 4 for the video recording, and Final Cut for the editing. I don't know how much it helps in terms of sales, but it was a lot of fun.

If anyone needs a 'voice of God' narrator, I'd be happy to loan them my son.  I just did this trailer for one of my traditionally published books, an am inordinately proud of the voice talent.

Here's one I made for my first book. I haven't made any more (they take a LONG time to edit), but I like the results. Smiley

I've just started - I decided to do animations for now, because it amused me and was something a little different. Here's the first:

I'm working on the second this weekend. :-)

Please enjoy the new trailer for The Gods in the Jungle. It's all my own work - including the maps!

I don't have anything against book trailers. I think they are a promotional tool and measuring their effectiveness is nearly impossible. Bob uses youtube a lot to put clips from his TV appearances #Invalid YouTube Link# and to promote his teaching workshops #Invalid YouTube Link#.

A lot of these that you all posted are fun and I enjoyed watching them. I think its one of those things that if you enjoy doing them, and they don't cost a ton, then why not?
