Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

Well, I haven't posted on this part of KB, yet.  I want to share how several prayers were answered all in one shot.  You guys can include some thanks to God for me!

We're moving soon, so that I can continue my graduate degree in preparation for ministry as a full-time student.  My wife was offered a job near our soon-to-be home yesterday (one prayer answered), that is a significant increase in salary from her current job (bonus blessings on top of answered prayer).  This job has excellent insurance (prayer answered).  My wife and daughter both have or have had some significant health concerns, so insurance was very important to us.  For my wife, we were worried about continuing coverage without a lapse, due to preexisting conditions.  We were considering horrible insurance through school or COBRA at a premium, neither of which we could afford.  The new job will let her start the first of August, when we move, so she can work the current job until we move, AND benefits will start on her first day (prayers answered)!

Prayer works.  Let's remember to give thanks to God for listening and answering.

Thanks for the prayers for Kate. The MRI did not reveal what we were hoping for...No Evidence of Disease but there was NO NEW GROWTH. Praise God and we will continue to press on in prayer for this precious child for God's mighty healing hand.

I have some good news to report on my best friend, Rosetta. She got engaged over the weekend. So let's send some happy marriage prayers her way (I'm so happy for her. She's been through so much!)

Heather we are so happy for Rosetta. After all the difficulties it is encouraging to hear this news. Praying for her to see His will in this and for her continued happiness.  And am thanking God that she has you for a friend.

Angela we will be in prayer for your mom.  High BP is no joke.  May the Lord calm her.

Please pray. My mom had a heart attack and is being airlifted to hospital in Vegas. I'm so scared. My dad said it was bad and its damaged her Kidneys and liver. That's all he knows.

Thank you. I'm waiting to hear from either my dad or Rosetta. They are airlifting Mom to a hospital in Las Vegas and he couldn't go with her. Luckily, my grandfather and uncle were visiting, so my grandfather is driving my dad to Vegas now. It'll probably be another 4 hours before he gets there though.  Zetta is at work for another 2 hours, but will be headed to the hospital as soon as she can. She's going to try to get in to see my mom if they let her, otherwise she'll stay there and wait for my dad. All I can do is sit here and wait for one of them to call. I'm trying to keep myself distracted, but I'm failing miserably. I'm clear across the country and feeling helpless at the moment.

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.

Talked to Mom (Thanks to Zetta getting in and talking to her). She's doing ok. She has to have tests run tomorrow to find out what's going on with kidneys and liver. Dr seems very concerned about that aspect. Won't find anything else out until then. Hopefully these issues aren't as serious as the Dr fears.

Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes tonight. You kept me from turning into a huge mess. The board was able to keep me distracted while I was waiting to hear any news.

First - Heather, I have been lifting you in prayer (as well as your mom) over these past few days. I know how frustrating it can be to be away from family in crisis. Even though I would love to still be in Houston with my hubby, I am so thankful that the Lord led us to move me back home to be near my mom these past 2+ years. I will continue to lift you, your mom and family in prayer.

Second - but still very important - Thank you dear friends and prayer warriors. Your prayers have been felt and reading your posts via email has been a great encouragement. Even if there had been no posts to read, I still had a calm spirit because I know you guys are so faithful to lift us all in prayer each day.

Now for an update on Mom (this is the first time I have been able to sit down at the computer since Thursday!) - although I took her to the ER because she fell and hit her head, it was the blood pressure and heart rate that concerned the doctors more. It took them 4 hours and an IV to get the BP down to a level that they felt comfortable enough to let her go home (178/99 with a heart rate of 43). We have been monitoring her and up until yesterday it was staying around the same as Thursday. Yesterday it began to climb again. She has an appointment with her doctor tomorrow (Tuesday). We are looking at the possibility of a pacemaker for the heart rate and are still not sure about the BP. She is already taking two meds for that. There is a "new" issue that will need to be addressed as well. When they did the CT Scan on her head (found no fractures of bleeding in the brain - praise the Lord), they discovered 2 lesions on her skull near her forehead that we will have to have follow up on. They ER doctor did not believe the lesions were related to her fall.. Please continue to pray for her as we move forward with doctor visits and whatever may come..

Thank you dear friends. I love you all and are praying for you as well.

Angela, please know that your Mom is a part of my daily prayers along with all who have requested prayers on these boards.  I am also praying for you and am happy that you can feel the support from all who have asked the Lord to strengthen you.  God bless!
