Adding my prayers to all the others. I recall Mother Teresa's comment in response to the saying "God never gives us more than we can handle" with something to the effect that "God's sense of this is very different than mine."
Leslie - may God give you the strength to take one breath after another and wisdom for each moment. You are in the crucible right now. It will not be easy, but the triune God accompanies you at every moment. And you continue in our prayers.
Sailor - the Spirit promises to give you the words to speak and the wisdom needed for each conversation with your beloved friend. May God give him a new hope, a new vision for his life.
Praise report from my end. My retirement party went very well, as did this morning's service. Mercy, I do so love the people in this congregation and serving each of the 200+ people Holy Communion was my way of saying "goodbye" to them. I am so very grateful that God sent me here! Now, on to the next chapter... Thanks for your prayers and kind thoughts.

Cheri, what a blessing to read your praise report. You have so been in my thoughts and prayers for the last week. I thought about you many times over the weekend and lifted you in prayer. I felt it would be an emotional time but I knew our loving Father would speak through you. I can not think of a better way to say "good bye" than through Holy Communion.
May God continue to bless you as you start a new chapter in your life. Thanks to you for reaching out to and ministering to me. You are such a blessing in my life as all my friends in the OYB group. I hope you will continue to hang out here with us.
Linda

Wow! I just stumbled on to this thread and read through the posts. Through my tears I've realized three things:
1. There's nothing like the power of prayer. 2. We all have our crosses to bear. Every time I feel down about my parents, I know that there is someone else in a similar or worse situation. 3. Knowing that others truly care and are praying for you is very uplifting. These boards are amazing...they may have started because of the Kindle but have ignited something far beyond just talking about an e reader. I'm grateful and proud to be a part of this community.
You all know that my mother is battling breast cancer (post double mastectomy). What I haven't told you is now as of 3 weeks ago my father had to have 5 stents put into his heart. We found out accidentally, that his heart is swollen to twice its normal size and the Drs. think that he may have already suffered several heart attacks. It is destroying his spirit not to be able to work in his garden and to have us take shifts to cut his lawn. There is such a sadness in him now. He's lost his spark. He's not the type to sit still.
What's worse for me (not that I am complaining), is now I really run around. Dad would pick up the slack for me with mom. He'd run to the store, fill in taking her to appointments. Now I am doing everything plus working. Though, I'd rather run around like a chicken and still have them both. Who knows...maybe I'll drop a couple of pounds. Thanks for your prayers.

Glad you stumbled upon us SJC. Welcome! I have been praying for your Mom for many months now but was unaware of your Dad. I will be lifting you in prayer along with your parents. I know God will provide the strength and courage needed as the roles are reversed and you become the care giver.
Feel free to come for prayers and support. This is a wonderful group and God has certainly made His presence known here.

Linda,
Thank you for your prayers this past weekend!
It was a wonderful time in every way possible - the only thing that could have been better was if my late mother were still alive and present. The party on Friday night was full of laughter and tears and a Skype connection with a close friend in South Africa! Saturday was filled with good food, wine tasting, and much laughter with my extended family.
I had wrestled with the sermon for weeks, getting nowhere for weeks. I prayed long and hard on Saturday night, got up at 6am on Sunday morning to write and then it came together. My Bishop was present and told me it hit the right message and tone for what it needed to do - to remind them that God's mission does not change when the leader changes and to offer personal thanks. The choir sang my favorite anthem and then sang an anthem they had commissioned to be written on my honor - I Have Called You by Name, based on Is. 43 - it is one of my favorite Scriptures. Of course I cried at various points. They cried too.
It was a blessed, lovely weekend and I am so thankful for that. Praise God!
Now I would ask prayers for a beloved parishioner, Betty, who is in the hospital on "Comfort Care". She is a wonderful, deeply faithful woman who has done mighty works in God's realm and is ready to go "home to God and to Frank (her late husband)".
Prayers for all continue.
Cherie

Cherie - So glad to hear a report on your retirement "send off!" The best is yet to come! Kathy - welcome home! SJC - I am so glad you stumbled across this thread. You are welcome to hang out here at anytime and know that we are praying for you and yours. Lesli - I am still lifting you in prayer daily. I am dealing with alzheimer's with my dad and the beginnings of dementia with my mom so I can relate to what you are going through. There are still times I think I am not ready to be the parent to my parents, but as was mentioned in an earlier thread, God will not give us more than we can handle. There have been times in my life that I thought I was taking right to the breaking point, but He has always carried me through and each time I have come out the other side stronger and better. I haven't been able to be online as much as I would like. I am not sure if my problems are internet related or if it is computer related, but I have been having trouble connecting to the internet and posting. Even when I am not here, I am still thinking of you all and praying. Love you and God Bless your week!

Neversleepsawink - Blessings as you go to your doctor today. Our prayers continue for you.
I won't be on the boards much over the next month - am off this morning on a series of trips. But, even though I'm not checking in, I am continuing in prayer for y'all.
blessings,
Cherie

Folks: my brother lost his job last fall. . . .he's been struggling and my dad's been helping him out but he NEEDS to get a new job. His unemployment. . .which doesn't even cover his real expenses. . . will likely run out in the next 2 two 3 months. So. . . . .he's putting out resumes constantly and doing whatever odd jobs come up; he's an IT guy and is really good at what he does. . . . . . .anyway, I just ask that you think of him. . . . . he's a pretty positive guy but he'll be devastated if he loses his house. . . . .
Thanks.

Ann, Where does he live? Where does he want to work? Clearances? You could just PM me, I guess and/or email me his resume.

Everyone is in my prayers today for a beautiful touch from God's hand into our lives. Even when we are in our pit of dispair, He will pull us out of it. We don't know when, but He is always/all ways faithful to do so to those of us who love Him.
Be Blessed,
Sailor
