The Moon in Deep Winter

Bestseller ranking: 460964

Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

Well, he just admitted over email that he"s at this hotel with his co-worker and that he has already given up on us before he even sat down for our talk.

Osnova, any thoughts on how the job interview went?
deb

Hm.  I think it went great.  They said they "will get in touch with me."  Apparently, the top management does not want to hire anyone period, while others see me as an asset and want to get "an exception" to the hiring freeze for me.

Osnova, I will continue to think and pray for you.

mom133d, Dona is right, concentrate on you and your child.  It was so hard when my now ex would do those very similar things.  After a while I realized I was only going to miss the man I wanted him to be.  You can't play the what if game, because he made this decision.  Please please be strong.  Think positive thoughts.  (I'm not preaching power of positive thinking, I'm just saying it's healthy for you to think about the positive and not the negative.)  Call a good friend when you want to vent and then move on.

mom133d - you are loved.
We care for you because you are a human being.
And God cares for you so much that he became man and sacrificed for you.
You personally.
Just focus on the love and how you ARE worth that love.
The one that made the universe (smarter than us) decided that you are worth love.

Just sayin......

I'm doing the little things that I can right now trapped in with the snowstorm. I've changed my password everywhere and deregistered his Kindle from my account. Cannceled the Prime membership and removed him from it. I'm tempted to change the login for the bank as well but since he has a card, that really doesn't do much. I need to get out of this house and go find some professional advice. Of course, nothing is open on Sundays anyway so I have at least another 24 hrs to stew... Thanks for the prayers folks.

Praying for you mom133d. I battled clinical depression in the early 90's and it is a medical condition that requires treatment. Take care of you and remember your relationship with God is everlasting and unchanging. He loves you! He is with you every step of the way during this difficult time, carrying you when you are too weary to walk. Lean on Him.

Praying for your family Deb and all of my OYB friends.

Oh mom133d, this brought back some tough memories. The same thing happened to me many years ago. I had 2 young children and was so sad and depressed. The thing is,  that once I realized it was over, all of the weight of worries I had been carrying for months just started leaving me. Of course, throwing all of his clothes out the upstairs window onto the front lawn and changing the locks was a great stress reliever as well. After the divorce, I was able to be a better mother to my children and became a stronger person. If you ever need to talk or vent, we will be here for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Deb, I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Osnova, good luck on the job.

Thank you all for your continued prayers.
Went to the surgeon today for post-op visit.  Surgery site is doing good.  Still plenty bruised.  He said the bruising is because they had to do a lot of "tunneling".  Sounds painful.  Glad I was asleep for it.

They are awaiting the second pathology report and then I will get an appointment with an oncologist.
I do not get to have the 7 days of radiation.  I have to do six weeks.  If they discover it's hormonal driven
I will need to do a drug for that.  They graded it as medium, which means I may need an MRI and maybe
further surgery.  Of course, all of this will ultimately be up to the oncologist.
Again, I am asking for prayer for my family.  There are three members of my immediate family who are driving me
crazy.  I understand they are concerned.  I appreciate that.  But I can't make them understand that they are
worrying me more than is necessary.

mom133d, please stay in touch with your friends here.
We care about you.

Thank you, Osnova.  I asked the surgeon today if he could perform lobotomies on a couple of my family members.
He laughed and said it might be a possibility.

Oh deb, it's hard to be a family member who is trying to help someone cope with a cancer.  Maybe if you came up with a list of things they could do for you, it would keep them from driving you as crazy...  My job for my mom was "cheerleader" - any time that she got down or upset, it was up to me to figure out a way to get her thinking positively again.  Luckily, my little niece was very photogenic and I kept photos of her around to make my mom smile.  She was determined to beat the cancer so she could see her only grandchild grow up...

mom133d - we are here for you.  YOU are an important person and God loves you.

osnova - job report?

job report?

It seems I am getting into the door on an "outside contractor" basis.  Yey!  It is still not finalized (it's the Christmas week) but the process is rolling.  Thanks for the prayers.

Sorry folks... he called Sunday morning in tears and said he wanted to come home and talk  if I'd let him. Especially for our son's sake I said yes. He finally got buried out of the snow and home late afternoon Sunday. We've been talking and I think we've made real headway with the issues we had. He swears that when he left Friday morning, his plans were to be by himself like he told me. We're going to have some trust issues and I don't know if I will ever be able to truely forgive him but I'm going to do my best to make this work.

Deb and osnova, you are in my prayers as well.

We just got word that one of our Executives lost his son Jeff to an ATV accident.  I know that they were close and Scott must be devastated.  Please hold Scott, his wife Dee Dee and their daughter Lindsay in your thoughts and prayers.

Andra, how very sad.  I will keep this family in my thoughts and prayers.

Osnova, congratulations.  Maybe only a temporary fix, but it's something.
I will continue to keep your situation in my thoughts.

mom133d, I'm glad some positive steps are happening.

Andra, thank you for the suggestion.  I am going to make a list, especially for my mom because I will probably be staying with her while I go through treatment.  I completely understand that they feel helpless, and I don't want them to worry.

Just popped in tonight to let you all know I have been keeping up with the prayer requests through email notification as usual and have been lifting you all in prayer. I have been very busy with out of town guests and of course the grandkids. Everyone left this evening so they could all have Christmas at their own homes so it is quiet for at least now. All is well with us.

I pray for you all a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year (in case I don't make it back before the end of the year). I will continue to pray for each of you daily. I love you all!!

I have been trying to stay out of here other than to add or subtract to my daily prayer list.  I am so glad to see that so much is being positive.

Now I have a request for myself.  I have been having leg problems for the past several months, thought at first it was a pulled groin muscle, but just got back from another doctor visit and the orthopedic doc was there, he thinks it could be a hip problem.  At my age that is not surprising, but not welcome.  I won't know until next Thursday after he looks at the x-rays that I cannot have made until Monday (everything is closed!)

Complete rest!  I am so frustrated!  I want to get back out and WALK, do my t'ai chi, be active again, and of course, pain free.  Would y'all please ask for the doctors to find out what is wrong and to be able to fix it?  I would be so ever grateful for your assistance and prayers.

blessings to all and please have a safe New Year!
