Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

Hi everyone, I don't know if you all will remember me or not, it's been a very long time since I've been active on the Kindle Boards. I went through a lot physically but believe the Lord is restoring me to health now. Praise be to Him! Anyway, I'm back and hope to get started on the OYB again real soon.
Glad to see you back.
Will be in prayer for you.

A wonderful friend my husband and I died yesterday. He was out on his fishing boat with his fishing buddies and fell overboard. We are not sure if he had a heart attack and fell in the water or if he actually drowned. They were able to get him back on the boat and he was breathing. They have no idea how he fell overboard. He was a wonderful friend, please pray for his wife and children. They are so devastated.

Thank you all, Kathy

Welcome back Sailorman!! I had posted sometime back that I wondered what was going on with you and if you were having health issues. You were missed and it is great to have you back. I don't know if you remember but we had recommended books to each other in the past.

Kathy I will be in prayer for you and your friend and their family. Do you mind giving the family's name?
His name was Richie Campbell. His wife is Fran. All of the children live in Long Island, New York. He has a brother who lives here and was with him on his boat.

His service will be Tuesday. Thanks for all of the prayers.

On another note, I just heard from my Son last night and I have a new Grandbaby on the way. It seems that God really does work in mysterious ways.

Kathy, Congratulations on the new grandchild.

My update:  I start my treatments tomorrow.  0 down - 33 to go.
Leslie suggested the ticker so everyone can keep up with me.
Thank you for all of your prayers.

On another note, my sister has to go tomorrow for another mammogram.  She went for one last week.
She's in a wheelchair and I guess it's harder to get an accurate view.
I don't think it's anything serious, but would appreciate a quick prayer if you could.

Thank you,

Sunday I went to church even though I was feeling bad and hurting, but the greeter had sent me an e-mail that she couldn't make it, I usually fill in for absentee readers and greeters.  I found it difficult to put my name on the prayer list and couldn't bring myself to mention my up-coming surgery, I didn't have that warm fuzzy feeling.  I am much more comfortable "talking" to y'all, complaining because I hurt (even tho there are many here in much worse shape than I am - I am not being judged), asking for your prayers, and giving my own to you.  I find this very interesting, I am a strong person and very rarely "ask" for much, but I do need all of you!  Thank you so much for being here for me and for the rest of us in our needs.

deb - your sister is in my prayers also, specifically, along with your family.

Dona, so glad you reached out. Deb and Dona my thoughts and prayers are with you.

My husband was able to travel to New York and attend the funeral of his fishing buddy. The cause of death was ruled as drowning. It is just so sad to loose such a good friend. Thank you all for your prayers.

Deb- hope your treatments go well and will prary for you and your sister.

Dona- I know how you feel about asking for prayers, good wishes for yourself. I feel like I am being selfish or weak when I ask for help. Being here on Kindleboards has helped me realize that is not the case and I really appreciate everyones prayers and kind thoughts.

I had my excisional biopsy today and the surgeon was very optomistic and said not to worry. I feel pretty good, not too much discomfort.

Thinking and praying for all of you.

Lynn L, thinking of you.  Please keep us posted.

I started treatments on Wednesday.  So it's 3 down and 30 to go.
It's very easy.  I walk in, lay down, they line up the machine, leave the room, and I get the treatment.
I'm in and out in less than 15 minutes.

Hello to All!!  I haven't been on here for WAYYY too long!!  My life just got so complicated and I had to cut down on my KB posting time.  So, I'd "dash in" daily and check the free and bargain books and then "dash out" again.  I was sure that life would settle down and I'd have more time to get back on here.  My conclusion:  Life doesn't seem to settle down.... problems get resolved and new problems enter stage right.  After reading pages and pages of your posts to get "re-acquainted" I realize that not only do I want to be here.... I NEED to be here with all of you!
Quick updates on my three grown sons: My oldest and his wife of 14 yrs have separated again and this time have filed for a divorce.  The last time they separated he attempted suicide and that was one of my MAJOR stressors!  This time he knows he has tried everything he possibly can to make it work and it's still not enough... so he is handling things better this time.
Middle son has his pancreatitis stabilized..... his alcoholism is not......
Youngest son has called to say that his girlfriend is pregnant.  No wedding planned because the relationship has been deteriorating for a while now.  So, I'm going to be a grandma for the first time - but, obviously, not the best of circumstances to say the least.  His girlfriend is not a Christian.... she was raised in a non-Christian home.... so I'm praying that I will be able to speak to this child of the God that I love and serve.  Not sure the girlfriend/mom will "allow" that.... and I don't want to be "banned" from this grandchild's life.... so I'm praying that even if I have to be careful what I say.... that I'll be able to show Christ in my behavior.
I'm praying for each of you..... and even if it means staying up a little later at night (I "crash" early since I have to get up for work at 5am), I'll check in here as often as I can.  In Him.....  Judy  <'///><

Thanks so much Deb!  I've been through the stereotactic biopsy which turned into a 3 hr nightmare so I sure can empathize.  You (and your family) are in my prayers.  Please keep us posted on your sister also.

Judy - I am sure that we will all pray for you, especially this week.
May the Lord provide for you and your family.

Friends, I don't often ask for prayers, but I need them. My best friend Rosetta has had a rough last 2 years. She's been through a divorce, messy custody battle, lost her job, her mom died of cancer, her sister committed suicide after the death of Mom. On top of all that, she's just found out her dad has a brain tumor. She's so scared she's going to lose him too. She's been my best friend since we were 9 years old. She's more than a friend, more than a sister, as I've always told her she's my bestest friend in the whole wide world. She's always been there for me when I needed her, but we're so far apart I feel so helpless to help her.

I'm scared because I don't know if she can handle losing Dad too. I'm afraid I'll lose her.
